Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Julien Espinoza And Jessica Julien Idris
Hi Jessie Julien Espinoza, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our mother was a Cosmetologist. We grew up watching her work in the beauty industry. My parents opened a salon and they were working towards opening up a beauty school as well. We saw how they both worked hard and experienced many setbacks. They were both from Haiti and moved to the US for a better opportunity. Seeing how the beauty industry helped and changed people, we both wanted to continue in this field and continue the journey of opening up a beauty institute.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I think that is the case with most businesses. It can appear to be an easy process or that anyone can do it but you have to be tough and stick it out through all the downs. Faith, determination, and motivation are what keeps us going. One thing about us is if we have a goal set, we will work hard to achieve the goal and our goal was to open up a beauty school. We experienced many struggles and setbacks throughout this journey. Finance is always a struggle for a small minority business, Also, the process to get to becoming an accredited beauty school in Georgia was rigorous. We are still in the process of being able to accept tittle IV funding. Each stage from the accreditation to the process for tittle IV funding requires a fee.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a beauty institute that provides the opportunity for individuals interested in the beauty industry to obtain a certificate in one of the courses we offer to become a licensed professional in their field. We are known for being hands-on with our teaching and a high percentage graduation rate. What sets us apart from other institutes and beauty schools is that Millennium Beauty Institute prides in teaching all ranges in skin color and hair textures. In the beauty industry, not many are taught how to handle more melonated skin tones or course hair texture. We make sure that our students can handle any client that walks in their door no matter their shade or texture.
I am proud to say that we are a family-owned business. All owners also are Veterans and served in the Army.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Jessica: My favorite childhood memory was when we went to the carnival as a family. It was my first time at the carnival and this made me aknowledge how my parents put time aside to do things with us. Also when we would go for long drives to get ice cream. I loved those times in the car with my family.
Jessie: My favorite childhood memory was when both my parents were home. My parents worked very hard and long days. They would work most holidays as well. When they were both home, I felt more normal and that we were doing what most families did. I don’t resent them at all because I understand that you have to sacrifice to become successful.
