Exploring Life & Business with Jessie Willis of Rogers Bridge Pediatric Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Willis.

Hi Jessie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my journey as a solo provider offering therapy services to infants and toddlers, a population that was often underserved in my area. Many families had a hard time finding the services their children needed, and I saw a clear opportunity to help.

Over time, I began building my practice by carefully adding like-minded therapists to the team. Each therapist was selected not only for their clinical skills but also because they shared the same vision and values. From the beginning, my goal was to create something more than just a therapy company. I wanted to build a place where therapists could thrive and feel supported, just as much as the families we serve.

I focused on creating a company culture that truly cares about its team. I believe that when therapists feel valued, supported, and inspired, they do their best work, and that directly benefits the children and families we care for.

What began with me traveling to homes has grown into a team of 12 incredible individuals. We purchased our own building about a year and a half ago and recently celebrated the company’s eighth birthday. We continue to serve infants and toddlers, but our services now extend through young adulthood, up to age 21.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road. When I started, I didn’t fully understand just how much work it would take to build and run a business, even as a solo provider. The clinical part came naturally, but the behind-the-scenes work was a steep learning curve. That first year was incredibly stressful and overwhelming.

I was fortunate to have the support of my husband, who helped me in more ways than I can count. Still, there were moments when I felt isolated. The families I worked with were wonderful, but there were times I wished I had a colleague to bounce ideas off of or help me navigate complex cases. That part of the journey changed for the better once I began building a team.

Another major challenge was working with insurance. I quickly realized how much I didn’t know and how complicated it could be. Thankfully, I had a close friend who understood the ins and outs of insurance and had a real talent for it. Once I admitted I was in over my head, she began helping me part time. That decision was a turning point. She eventually became my office manager and now plays a critical role in keeping everything running smoothly.

There were definitely growing pains, but every challenge helped shape the company into what it is today. I have learned that asking for help, surrounding yourself with the right people, and being willing to grow are essential parts of the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rogers Bridge Pediatric Therapy provides speech and occupational therapy for children and young adults from birth to age 21. We are based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and are deeply involved in our local community. Our services include early intervention, feeding therapy, sensory integration, AAC support, and more.

What we are most known for is the quality of our team. I am incredibly proud of everyone who work here. They are dedicated, passionate, and hand-selected to ensure they not only provide excellent care but also contribute to the positive culture we value so much.

Our clinic is a place where children feel supported and celebrated. We believe in meeting kids where they are and using play, connection, and trust to help them grow. At the same time, we are just as committed to supporting our staff and creating a workplace where therapists can truly thrive.

Our brand is built on relationships, quality care, and a whole lot of heart. We work hard, we laugh often, and we never stop cheering for the kids and families we serve.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that hard work and dedication are essential. A lot of people underestimate just how much time, energy, and effort it takes to run a small business. At the end of the day, the success or failure of the business falls on me, and that can be both empowering and overwhelming.

That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with knowledgeable mentors and a strong support system. You need people who want to see you succeed and who can guide you through the challenges. No matter how much you plan, unexpected situations will come up. Having mentors to lean on makes a big difference.

And while it may sound cliché, taking care of yourself matters too. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Making space for rest and balance helps you show up as your best self – for your business, your team, and the families you serve.
