Today we’d like to introduce you to John Wannamaker.
Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
8Thirty Electric, Inc. has over 35 years of experience in executive and field leadership.
We are an electrical contractor in northern and southeast Georgia for commercial and residential customers soon to expand to Charlotte, North Carolina. Commercial and Residential work is where we succeed with “best of service” with 5-star reviews to prove it on all our social media platforms.
No job is too big or too small.
We began during the pandemic (Covid-19) and decided working for someone else was not worth the paycheck when your peace was shattered and your neighborhood suffered. We began this venture of changing the market in 2021 and never looked back.
Based in Johns Creek, Georgia we have grown the business to a workload that requires our crews to work up to 7 days a week, 24 hours a day some months.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to being a regional electrical company has not been easy and has required lots of personalized activities, from praying to writing personalized thank-you cards.
We began the business on the NextDoor (Neighborhood) app, which simply posted that an electrician was available to help home and business owners find and fix troubling issues. NextDoor soon expanded to other areas, and we were lucky enough to win the Neighborhood Award for 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 8Thhirty Electric Inc?
8Thirty Electric specializes in residential troubleshooting as an electrical contractor. With a background in commercial electrical work, John the founder of 8Thirty Electric saw the need for a Johns Creek-based electrical contractor and took the plunge to start the business with his wife, Brittney.
Primarily, we are working on residential projects locally throughout the Atlanta Metro and in Savannah, Georgia. We’ve recently picked up commercial work in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Orangeburg, South Carolina.
We find our niche of installing and servicing EV chargers to be the best part of our business no matter commercially or residential. We also work with real estate agents to review and remedy home inspector reports. We work with homeowners to install lighting options, consult on electrical panel upgrades, and troubleshoot issues other electricians have been unable to provide an answer for.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Johns Creek is a small city without its own post office, so most homes here must use Duluth or Alpharetta for their address. Although not a city with its own zip code, Johns Creek, a Northern Atlanta suburb has its own feel. The people here are nice, mostly affluent, and know what they want. In the beginning, they sat at home and found things they didn’t like or wanted more – then after COVID-19 they work from home and have more options for an electrical contractor – but no matter what, we are here to help our community.
We dislike the haggling of prices by many of our customers. We are pricing our service to keep us in business and we match the price of Home Depot or Lowes for material. It’s a growing pain to have an issue with negotiations, but some clients in this area do not truly know what they want and want electrical and design help.
That’s a hint for area space designers.
