Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Maxwell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a classroom teacher with the Philadelphia School District, I started out eager and excited, but that quickly dwindled. I was met by big demands, unrealistic time frames, I felt like it was always something to get done, with never enough time. I was tired, I had no classroom support 32 children, it was all too much. I continued to teach for almost ten years, with little to no improvements. The student’s home life sometimes affected their ability to learn. I felt like they needed a stronger foundation. One day it hit me, I wanted to go back to my first love, early childhood education. I left the classroom in 2014,and the rest is history. I started a home daycare and now I have three commercial locations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been smooth I’ve lost friends and family support. I’ve had people try and sabotage me, my name and my business…to no avail. I’ve had people not believe in me, quit on me, talk about me, misunderstand me. I’ve had failed business partners, money stolen and more. That’s why I know what’s in you has to be stronger than who is around you. My faith has kept me going, it’s given me hope and strength. My why is so much bigger than my current situation, I just can’t give up.
