Exploring Life & Business with Karen Spencer of Dtox Juice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Spencer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I bought my first juicing machine more than 20 years ago and ever since, I have been making and enjoying drinking green juice. I spent eight years living in China, where I had exposure to eastern medicine which among other things, teaches the importance of eating healing foods that deliver maximum nutrition with the least amount of strain on the digestive system. When I moved back to the United States in 2012, I noticed that juice bars were popping up in major cities. and what had started out as my personal interest soon turned into a passion and a subsequent juice business. Today, dtox juice operates in 4 retail locations, three of which are located inside Whole Foods Markets, an online platform supported by a shipping and fulfillment team, and a wholesale business that allows us to distribute and sell to local operators in the Atlanta area as well as to Whole Foods Market juice bars in Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a small and growing business is not for the faint of heart! It requires patience and perseverance as every day brings new challenges. We went through a lot during covid, but thanks to our loyal customers who recognized the importance of staying healthy and boosting the immune system, we stayed afloat during a difficult time, and because now more than every people realize the importance of good health, our business is flourishing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Juice and smoothie company based in Atlanta.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The health and wellness industry continues to grow at a rapid pace. It is not that eating well is trendy, it is knowledge and awareness that fuels the growth of this sector. The more people read, learn and understand the correlation between what we consume versus our energy levels, physical performance, and mood, the more people integrate healthy eating choices into their daily routine.
