Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Davis, Lmft
Hi Kendall , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was younger, I knew that I wanted to be in the helping field. Being an only child to divorce as a kid really shaped a lot of my thoughts and feelings about therapy and the importance of seeking help early on in life. My Mom sending me to therapy to help cope with all the changes going on at the time was really a
life-changing experience. From then on, I knew that I wanted to be the one to help other kids and families going through tough life transitions. Fast forward to attending college at Auburn University where I started out majoring in Psychology and quickly switched to a major in Human Development & Family Studies with a family concentration. After graduation, I went straight to obtaining my Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy at Mercer University. From then on, I was able to gain a lot of my experience working at a group private practice and at Georgia State’s Counseling Center. I am proud to say that I am currently a Licensed Therapist working as a Program Director at an addiction treatment center and Owner of my private practice, Candor Therapy Care, LLC. My therapist as a child helped me find my voice, so a lot of my work centers around helping those find their voice individually, or in their relationships whether if it’s to set boundaries, learn to better process and vocalize emotions, or express your needs and wants.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. Nothing in life is supposed to come easy though. I’m grateful for where I am now and how I got here even with all of the challenges that my journey came with. Where do I start? My friends and I in grad school dealt with racism from a classmate and false accusations that almost got us removed from the program. While in school, I balanced three jobs on the side, which led to constant burnout. I had to get back into therapy myself to deal with some of my childhood traumas at the same time I am learning to be a therapist which was challenging. Also, COVID hit during my last semester of grad school, which almost kept me from graduating on time. So no, getting here was not easy, but God was with me the whole time. While on my journey, I learned a lot about myself, and more importantly how to say no and how to speak up to advocate for myself and my needs. I’m also grateful for my support system because they played a pivotal role in getting me here.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I just recently opened up a private practice part-time, Candor Therapy Care, which actually started out originally as a mental health page in 2020. The name ‘Kandor’ was given to me in college because I am someone who is very straightforward and honest. I developed my therapeutic style based off who I am as a person wanting to provide honesty and openness in session with my clients. My brand is all about embracing authenticity and coming to therapy as your true self in order to feel comfortable and safe working through the hard stuff to better accomplish your goals. As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I offer individual and couples therapy to Individuals and Couples wanting to work on a variety of relational issues, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, attachment injuries/issues, and healing. I offer virtual and in-person services in Decatur, GA. I see client’s at a self-pay rate and accept Aetna and Cigna insurance.
