Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Afreeka.
Hi Kim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young adult, I worked at the Department of Social Services
I officially started my career working with homeless women and children. I then applied for and received a grant for non profit empowerment program for mothers receiving public assistance. I then decided to go to Morgan State University for my BSW then University of Maryland for my MSW. I worked for 17 years with underserved communities. I retired in 2008 from direct services to open my private practice Kismet Life Coaching. While at Morgan State, I volunteered with Iyanla Vanzant and was inspired by all the lives she touched. I have been Life Coaching for 20 years now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it hasn’t been a smooth road however I appreciate the rough and dark times, they were necessary for my growth. I was able to use the lessons I learned to level up and prepare for future challenges. Scaling my companies, finding clients, investors and partners that believed in my vision and in me is the most challenging for me as an entrepreneur.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I make all my own hair and skin care products by hand to avoid the chemicals in the store brought products. I love mixing formulas and have been doing it for almost 2 decades now. I did an e-commerce in 2013 to share it with others and people really loved my products, I chose to go on tour with my then partner and had to stop operations. Due to all the positive feedback I still get til this day, I am now rebranding and repackaging it, and my signature line of all natural hair, body & home care will be available in 2026 with a new attitude and ready for the world.
