Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Epps.
Hi Kimberly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career in Real Estate back in 2013 as a leasing agent at an apartment complex. I then was promoted to property manage a year later. After four years of managing that property, I connected with an investor who had a number of single family homes. I decided to quit my 9-5 and launch my own Property Management company and began working with one investor. Over the next three years, I have added over 450 single family homes and a commercial property to my portfolio and over 30 investors. This past year, I ventured into the entertainment industry as the private housing coordinator for actors when they come to Atlanta to film. This has opened up opportunities for me to also handle investment properties for A-list celebrities that are wanting to get into real estate.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been about as smooth as that yellow brick road in The Wizard of OZ! So many obstacles have come along with the territory of betting on myself and being a business owner. For starters, I am a mother of two young kiddos, so finding that balance with my career and personal life has been quite the challenge that I am still trying to manage.
We’ve been impressed with The Epps & Aubrey Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company The Epps & Aubrey Group is named after my daughter Aubrey. She was the catalyst behind why I ventured out to start my own business. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit; but after I became a mom my passion to really go for establishing myself as a female business owner came from her. What we specialize in is single-family, commercial, and T.V and film property management. I know many would not put entertainment and Real Estate together but they go hand in hand.
What sets my company apart from many others is that for one is that we are a 360 property investment operations company. Meaning, we handle all factors related to investor acquisitions, project management, tenant placement and full management thereafter. When it comes to the entertainment part of my company, I am contacted by productions in advance on behalf of the actors. Every actor has a housing budget, my private portfolio for them is exclusive high-end homes that are fully furnished and managed by me and my team along with any concierge services they may need.
What I am most proud of brand-wise is that we are a female black-owned company, and I have yet to meet anyone doing what I am doing in this particular realm of Real Estate. I feel like I have carved out my own lane and I’m doing a damn good job at it.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My definition of success is not anything that is tangible or monetary. Wealth in all areas of my life and staying true to myself and my relationship with Christ is what I see as success. Of course, I want to see my career continue to grow, thrive and become my platform that will help bring other young minorities into Real Estate, but success for me is definitely being committed to establishing and maintaining wealth mentally, spiritually, relationally and financially.
