Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharif D. King “King Sharif” of Sharif D. King Media Group.
Hi King Sharif, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Thanks for having me. My story is unique in fact I have had the chance to work with some amazing media brands, such as Hot 97, ThisIs50.Com, Urban One, Dopeness Magazine, Nexstar Media Group, Fox 19, and more which was all preparation for launching my own media brand. This journey helped me carve my niche and helped me to realize that my journey was not about just climbing up the ladder as a heavily sought-after talent but building and creating my own brand, space, and lane in the broadcast and digital media industry. Having a go-getter mindset, creating my own mentality, the Kingin Mentality, and not being afraid to be a leader afforded me the opportunity to create and forge my own path as the Mega Multi-Media Mogul that I am.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, I’ve learned to always bet on myself. I’ve been wanting to pass up on opportunities because I am afraid of failing. Failing is an important aspect of growth. There are a few ideas that I didn’t try, a few shows that I didn’t pitch, a few questions that I didn’t ask, and a few styles that I didn’t wear, and it all showed me that I didn’t believe in myself enough to bet on me. In the end, it made me upset when I saw someone do the same idea and see success in it. Trust your gut, don’t be afraid to fail, bet on yourself, and care less about what others will think; just do it. Lastly, if you’re going to do it, then put your all into it. You’ll realize that you’ve told yourself no before anyone can give you a yes if you don’t believe in yourself. I have also learned that being perfect is not the goal, but being you is. Your unique style in the way you do a thing is your ticket to success. Don’t be a carbon copy, be a one of one, master your craft, and don’t take no for an answer! There’s success in being you and doing you! Being you leave no regrets and makes it easier for you to go after the big thing and do the big thing. That’s been my mindset going into auditions, building my company, pitching content, and requesting partnerships with big brands, businesses, and companies. I stopped being afraid to be me and expected nothing less than greatness no matter what table I’m sitting at. The entrepreneurship part of my journey has and continues to show me how talented of Multimedia Host/Personality and Journalist I am and why I can’t be afraid to own who I am while aiming for the big lights. If you can’t imagine yourself on that billboard, no one will.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I operate a Broadcast and Digital Journalism, Content Creation, Multimedia, and Production company by the name of Sharif D. King Media Group. I also run my stage name as “King Sharif” as a brand, business, and talent. King Sharif is a Multimedia Journalist, On-Air/ On-Camera Host/Personality, Content Curator, Podcaster, Voice-Over Talent,
Event Host, Moderator, and Orator. These two companies work simultaneously together to create, pitch, produce, and deliver top-tier material for Radio, TV, Digital, and Online media, platforms, brands, and outlets in music, news, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, culture, and tech. I’m most proof of the collaborations and content that I’ve created and how much I’ve grown as a journalist. My experience as Anchor and Reporter in news, radio hosting, digital media interviews, and social media content has shown me I am seen as such a versatile talent. What sets me apart is my ability to deliver in both a scripted and unscripted arena. I can create and curate content on the fly, and my content touches a plethora of topics, I can lead a conversation, yet my listening ear brings out the exclusive content based on what my guests, and interviewees present or more importantly how they respond. My candid grassroots conversations most often become favorites for many. I also have a strong delivery, and my personality stands alone no matter the room or stage.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was owning a karaoke machine and recording Angie Martinez’s shows over my uncle’s mixtapes.
