Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Omodele.
Hi Lawrence, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had a black 2002 Chrysler Sebring convertible that I washed nearly every week, and whenever I drove it somewhere, I’d constantly get compliments on how nice it looked or how the paint was still glowing, despite the fact that the car was 18 years old. It was a hot summer day on July 14, 2020. Because the sun had been shining all day, I decided to wash my car for the weekend. After I finished washing it, I took pictures and spent the rest of the day staring at them. It was around 9 o’clock later that day, and I was still staring at the pictures. I was deep in thought at this point, telling myself how amazing of a job I do and how nice it felt to have other people look at my car and compliment my work. With no more thought to be done I decided that I was going to start a carwash. I created an Instagram page within seconds. My father is a mechanic with his own shop, and he thankfully agreed to let me use the side of his shop for my carwash. It required a lot of patience, time management, and discipline to get to where I am now. Patience was required because I had to teach myself how to manage a business properly and provide excellent customer service. In addition, I had to be patient with the weather. The sun may shine every day for the first week and rain every day for the second week. Because I started my business at the age of 17, the summer after my junior year ended and I was about to begin my senior year, time management was crucial. During this time, covid was a significant threat, and I spent my senior year virtually. I had to find a balance between my academic and employment schedules. So, after school, I’ll head to my shop to open up for the day. Going to school while still being able to run a business required a lot of discipline. It took discipline to maintain a high gpa while working late nights and sometimes early mornings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trying to find ways to differentiate my carwash business from any other car wash business was one of the difficulties and challenges I had to overcome. I’ve been fixing cars since I was eight years old, and I know how to put led lights on the interior and exterior of a vehicle. So, in order to stand out and build a reputation for myself, I chose to combine my three skills. As a result, I now wash and detail cars, work on them and install led lights on the interior and exterior of a car. The second obstacle I had to overcome was having enough time throughout the day. That will most likely be my toughest issue because staying on a job for an extended period of time can either hinder or uplift me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Ldawg’s Carwash?
My carwash business isn’t your typical carwash. I work on cars and install led lights in the interior and outside of vehicles. What set me apart from the rest was that I was a young teen who was able to run a business while still attending school. I was also doing more than simply car washing. I want the readers to know that Ldawg’s Carwash isn’t just any carwash; it’s a place where you’ll depart with a big smile on your face and gain a new friend which is me.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you’re thinking about starting a business, my suggestion is to keep going even when things get tough. You’ll make plenty of mistakes, which is fine, but learn from them so you don’t make the same mistake twice. All you have to do now is keep striving for greatness. Every day, remind yourself of how hardworking and determined you are by believing in yourself. The one piece of advice I wish I had known before beginning a business is that success does not happen overnight.
