Hi Maria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey as a makeup artist began with a deep passion for helping people feel confident, beautiful, and authentically themselves. From the start, I’ve been drawn to the transformative power of makeup, not just in how it enhances someone’s features but in how it boosts their confidence and allows them to shine. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to create everything from soft glam to intricate, high-impact looks that reflect each client’s unique personality.
Getting to where I am today hasn’t always been easy. Like any entrepreneur, I’ve faced challenges—moments of self-doubt, tough decisions, and the inevitable ups and downs of running a business. But I’ve learned that consistency, resilience, and belief in yourself are everything. Not everyone will take you seriously, and not everyone will want you to succeed—but the ones who do will be there forever. My support system, including family, friends, and mentors, has played a huge role in keeping me grounded and motivated.
Believe it or not, my passion for makeup started when I was around seven years old. My single mom would come home from work exhausted, and as a way to spend time together, we would play “salon.” I would do her makeup and hair, and what started as a fun game quickly became something more. As I grew older, I continued doing her makeup, and one day, I realized it wasn’t just play—it was my true LOVE.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like any industry, the beauty world comes with its fair share of challenges, and I’ve had to navigate obstacles that tested my confidence and resilience. One of the biggest struggles was dealing with jealousy and competition—especially when I started gaining more experience and recognition. Instead of seeing me as a potential partner, some agencies and artists saw me as a threat and even tried to hold me back. It was tough, especially in an industry where support and collaboration should be the norm.
It’s also hard not to compare yourself to others in this field. Social media constantly showcases everyone’s highlight reel, and at times, it made me question my own progress. But I’ve learned that once you gain confidence in your own work and trust in your experience, everything else gets easier. You stop worrying about what others are doing and focus on perfecting your craft and serving your clients in the best way possible.
At the end of the day, I’ve realized that the right people will support you, and the ones who try to bring you down are just proof that you’re doing something right. Every challenge has only made me stronger, and I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey.
