Exploring Life & Business with Matt McLean of Digitic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt McLean.

Hi Matt, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Atlanta, I was always a huge fan of Turner Broadcasting and all the entities under their corporate umbrella, like Cartoon Network, TBS, and all the sports teams they owned like the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Thrashers. I was lucky enough to secure a job with Turner as my first job after college and soon fell in love with the marketing aspect of their business. That led me to eventually work within a few marketing and advertising agencies to hone my skills and truly understand the relationship between a client and an agency. I finally took the plunge, leaving an amazing leadership position as VP of Operations at a national digital marketing agency, to launch my own agency, call DIGITIC Marketing Co., after 15 years of working for someone else. I decided to niche down and specialize in legal marketing services for law firms looking to drive more business through their website.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always challenges to starting your own business, but I feel every hour I spend working on something is for my own good and makes me and my brand that much better. I try to get better every single day. My biggest recommendation is to set one big goal each day and focus on accomplishing that one goal. The other items under that goal can wait and that helps avoid all the distractions that come with owning your own business.

As you know, we’re big fans of Digitic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our tagline is “Law firm digital marketing that outperforms the competition” because in our world of digital, where the landscape is always changing, the one thing that remains constant is that you always have to understand what your competitors are doing and how to outperform them. It’s difficult for business owners to monitor competitors constantly as they have their own businesses to run, so that’s where we come in. We help our clients monitor and surpass competitors, typically online via search engines like Google and Bing.

DIGITIC also prioritizes our clients because we recognize the importance of increasing new business. We use a model called ASR (Attention, Service, Results) that we developed and implemented into our systems. In my experience, those three key factors are what keep a long-lasting agency and client relationship if you can nail them.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I just finished the book called, “Never Split the Difference” which details tips on negotiating. It sounds like a 100% sales book for business, but it’s always good to have that skillset and knowledge in your personal life as well.

I’ve also been listening to the podcast called, Smartless, every Monday. It’s a fun getaway from all the business information I absorb daily.
