Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Schiessle.
Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For the last ten years, my husband and I have been renovating homes in the Tampa and Atlanta area. He is a Civil Engineer and has taught me a lot about construction, and I have taught him about good design. I have always had the ability to visualize how to improve the form and function of older outdated spaces. Our home in Atlanta is a work in progress, and we continue to renovate each room to adjust to our growing families needs.
My Sister and business partner, Dana graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Webster University. Prior to that, she majored in Interior Design at the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida. In 2021 we decided to open our Interior Design firm, Dimora Designs. Our experience and passion for architecture and design was a match made in business heaven. Dana is also a licensed Realtor in Florida, and we enjoy finding our clients homes that we can design to meet their lifestyles. We also work with Real Estate Investors that purchase homes to create Short Term Rental homes and design and furnish the homes end to end.
I’m now a mother with two toddlers and I like to run a clean and organized household. I understand that houses are being used now for multiple purposes and we can ensure our clients’ spaces will be both practical and functional. I think it’s important to create a home you are happy and comfortable in while still remembering design can be fun.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenging part about opening a new Interior Design business is picking the path that makes the most sense for both my business partner and myself. We live in two different states and have different experiences. Most of my experience is in renovating older homes and creating new updated spaces. I love being in a construction zone; fresh drywall, new floors, tile that hasn’t been grouted yet, etc. I love to see that progress. However, those big projects take up a lot of time and it’s hard when we are so busy focusing on our online home decor store so our clients can shop directly from us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Dimora Designs?
Interior Designers, and Sisters Michelle and Dana, share a passion for design. While Dana is a Realtor in Florida and a trained artist with an eye for color and design, Michelle has been renovating homes for the past 10 years.
Dana and Michelle both understand the competitiveness of the Real Estate industry so if you are looking for design help in a newly purchased house or if you need help staging for selling, we can create the perfect space. Michelle and Dana are both mothers who like to run a clean and organized household. We understand that houses are being used now for multiple purposes and we can ensure your newly designed spaces will be both practical and functional.
We love working with neutral colors as a base and adding pops of color throughout the space. Monochromatic colors, gray, black, white, silver, gold, and adding in wood and metal accents to round out a modern or industrial touch and blend it into a transitional home.
Our line of Home Décor items has been curated to reflect our aesthetic, and we use many of these products in our day-to-day life.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I am not afraid to do research, I actually enjoy it. Designing my own kitchen was a great learning experience. I had never shopped for cabinets, countertops, or a backsplash before. Finding the best suppliers and materials that would be timeless and also durable was important to me. I visited local tile shops and stone fabricators asking questions and taking home samples so I can see the materials in my home before I decide. I have been told that I make impulsive decisions, but these decisions come so easy to me I know what is going to look best! I also spend a lot of time dreaming about renovating spaces. If I come over to your house, I will go to sleep that night thinking about how I could make it better!
I’m also very practical; renovations and furnishing a home can be very expensive and overwhelming. I like to select affordable pieces that can easily be moved around a home to enjoy many years of use. We want our clients’ homes to feel high-end but not to the point that we have to break open the bank to get there. We have carefully selected the vendors that we partner with, and we only select quality pieces for our client’s homes.
We realized early on that your network is your net worth. Engaging and interacting with our clients, other designers, trade professionals, and realtors has helped us develop our brand into what it is today. We focus on social media for broader brand awareness and in-person seminars in order to connect with our local community.
