Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikaela Perkins.
Hi Mikaela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started very simply — just helping a few people with their taxes while working full-time and trying to find my own direction. I never imagined it would grow into a multi-city firm with 50+ tax professionals, a full training ecosystem, and multiple businesses under my umbrella. But as I learned the industry, I realized people needed more than tax prep — they needed education, structure, and someone willing to pour into them. That’s how Kae’s Tax Pros was born.
Over the years, my role expanded from tax preparer to mentor, educator, and creative entrepreneur. I now run several brands, teach new preparers how to make 5–6 figures, and help business owners elevate their operations and marketing. One of the most meaningful parts of my journey is my nonprofit work, which allows me to give back to families in a real, hands-on way. Service keeps me grounded and reminds me why I do any of this.
Today, I’m a full-time CEO building businesses that create opportunity for others. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, and even with everything I’ve built, I still feel like I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, but the hard moments are honestly what built me.
I’ve had seasons where I was growing a business while battling anxiety, navigating personal losses, and trying to show up for everyone else while barely holding myself together. There were moments of burnout, moments of doubt, and moments where I questioned if I was really called to do this.
But every setback taught me something. I learned how to rebuild, how to trust God even when I couldn’t see the next step, and how to stay disciplined when life felt overwhelming. I learned that leadership isn’t about perfection — it’s about perseverance, humility, and choosing to rise again and again.
On the business side, scaling multiple ventures, training a large team, and creating opportunities for others stretched me in ways I wasn’t always prepared for. But it also showed me what’s possible when you stay driven and stay rooted in purpose.
The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been purposeful. And every challenge pushed me closer to the woman and CEO I’m becoming. I’m grateful for the struggle because it strengthened my faith, sharpened my vision, and gave me the heart I lead with today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kaes Tax Pros?
Kae’s Tax Pros is a people-first tax firm.
We serve clients across multiple cities, specializing in individual and small-business taxes, tax planning, and year-round financial guidance. What we’re known for most is the experience — our clients feel supported, educated, and genuinely taken care of. We make taxes simple, clear, and stress-free.
I’m also extremely proud of the team behind this brand. Every season, we train and develop new and returning tax professionals through a structured curriculum that gives them real skills and real earning potential. Watching people come in with no experience and leave with confidence. Sometimes earning more in a season than they’ve ever made before, means everything to me.
What sets us apart is our commitment to both sides: our clients and our tax pros. We invest just as much into the people preparing the returns as we do into the people trusting us with their taxes. That’s how we maintain consistency, integrity, and a level of service that feels personal.
For anyone reading, I want you to know that Kae’s Tax Pros is more than a tax firm. We’re a community. Whether you’re looking for someone to guide you through your taxes or a place to grow as a professional, we’re here to educate, empower, and elevate every step of the way.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck, I believe in God, timing, and preparation. Everything in my life and business has been a mix of faith, discipline, and being willing to grow through uncomfortable seasons. The moments that looked like “good luck” were really the result of consistency finally meeting opportunity.
And the moments that felt like “bad luck” were lessons that pushed me to build better systems, strengthen my mindset, and rely on God more than my own understanding.
Nothing I have today was accidental. It came from prayer, resilience, and being obedient to the vision even when the path wasn’t clear. So instead of luck, I’d say grace has played the biggest role in my journey… grace, hard work, and a belief that what’s meant for me won’t miss me.
