Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Vahdat
Mike, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Iran and moved to the United States at the age of 18. My journey brought me to Cobb County, Georgia, where I completed high school. I then pursued both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech. After graduating, I began my career working for a Fortune 100 company as a researcher and project manager. After five years, I transitioned to a short tenure with a large international firm as a program manager before being recruited as Vice President and Engineering Manager for a major manufacturing company. In that role, I was responsible for factory remodeling and expansion, which is where I discovered my passion for construction.
In 1999, I launched my first construction company, focusing on starter homes and properties for first-time movers. Over nearly a decade, I built over 300 homes ranging from $150,000 townhomes to million-dollar single-family residences. Since 2008, my focus has been on growing Ambiance Atlanta into one of the premier design-build companies in the city, offering tailored solutions that bring clients’ visions to life.
At Ambiance Atlanta, we specialize in providing customized design-build solutions that balance creativity and functionality. What sets us apart is our commitment to truly understanding our clients’ needs and delivering projects that exceed their expectations. I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built with clients, many of whom return for additional projects or recommend us to others.
The journey has not been easy. Challenges are an inevitable part of entrepreneurship, from economic downturns to the complexities of managing a growing business. I’ve always approached problems by breaking them down to their fundamental components, solving smaller issues first to simplify the larger ones. This methodical approach, coupled with persistence and an ability to learn from setbacks, has been instrumental in my growth as a business owner.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to get here has not been smooth but very fulfilling. I have had many setbacks and obstacles along the way both in my professional and personal life. As you can imagine being on my own since i was 15 in a different country with out family and not knowing the language has had its challenges.
I have managed to not only survive but thrive through 5 economic downturns, death of of my parents, and raising my amazing and beautiful girls (The last one was the hardest one)
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I founded Ambiance Atlanta to help clients around “The Hollywood of the South” create unique physical spaces that bring their personal visions to life using modern construction techniques – from embracing the latest design trends to the use of eco-friendly sustainable materials.
After completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Mike started his professional career in heavy machinery manufacturing – where he rapidly progressed to become Vice President of Engineering for a global firm.
Everything changed when his first daughter was born and the travel required of a global executive no longer aligned with his priorities – being around for life’s most important moments. Having worked in residential and commercial construction during his time as a student at GA Tech, Mike decided to strike out on his own as an entrepreneur in 1999.
Since that time, me and his team have built over 150 new homes, developed multiple neighborhoods, and led countless design + build + remodel projects for residential and commercial clients in the Atlanta area.
What makes you happy?
My happiness comes from many different areas of my life. however, first and for most; it comes from my family, second are my friends and third is food.
