Hi Monti, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Monti, I’m an Entrepreneur and the owner of Flavor Beauty Bar / Laser Flavor. It’s my mission to become a household name, so keep an eye out for me and my brand. I’ve always had a side business since a very young age. Right after high school, I didn’t have much guidance, so I decided to go to college and work in the medical field. After working in the medical field for five years, I decided to quit and start my journey as a full-time entrepreneur in 2014. In 2016, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and my beauty business was launched out of boredom. I originally did eyelash extensions and within the first year of doing that I opened my own salon call Flavor Beauty Bar. After opening my salon, I took a ton of continuing education courses in the esthetician field and started my laser hair removal business called Laser Flavor. Earlier this year, I was able to open up my second location in Marietta, Georgia.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur has not always been easy. I’m the first entrepreneur in my family and I do not have any mentors, so I’m literally figuring everything out on my own. I’ve made so many bad investments, so many financial mistakes but I never give up and will always continue to move forward. My biggest struggle right now is finding the right people to work with. I am so passionate about my business and I like everything to run smoothly and easy, but right now it’s just hard to find good help and passionate people that want to help you make your business better. I am so thankful to have the people that I have on my team now but I definitely want to grow and have more employees within the next two years. I want everyone to treat my business like they would treat their business and work hard so that we can all grow and be fruitful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Laser Flavor is one of the first black-owned laser hair removal studios. We specialize in laser hair removal on all skin types and all ethnicities. Most laser hair removal places are using outdated lasers that can be harmful and not very effective for all skin types. By removing unwanted hair, Laser Flavor allows men and women to become more confident. Although it may not seem important to some people, Laser Flavor has changed the lives of many of my clients. The services we offer are tailored to meet the needs of a variety of clients. There are a number of clients that we see who suffer from ingrown hairs, hormonal issues – like PCOS – which can lead to women growing facial hair, as well as transitioning clients who need to have hair removed in certain areas in order to undergo gender reassignment surgery. In addition, I also have clients who are simply looking for a hair-free life. A lack of representation of people of color was evident when I first entered the field of laser hair removal. People of color need to know that laser hair removal is safe for them and there are machines specially designed to work for their skin type.
