Exploring Life & Business with Nashid Sharrief of Gold Space Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nashid Sharrief.

Hi Nashid, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The owners of Gold Space Atlanta Skyview have known each other since we were born. Lifelong friends decided to invest in an event space in west Atlanta because we wanted to be a part of establishing the image of West Atlanta as a place for high-end events and corporate retreats. Our goal was to help corporations doing business in Atlanta reimagine where they see as options for offsite meetings. Instead of thinking only of hotels downtown, now they know of the Gold Space Atlanta. We have especially been successful with those corporations who are serious about their Diversity Equity and Inclusion efforts.

While corporate events are one focus, we have been blessed to also provide a space for the community to come out to celebrate, to fellowship, and to connect with family through birthday celebrations, baby showers, weddings, repass events, and more.

Most exciting is having a front-row seat to the entrepreneurial spirit of Atlanta. The pop-up shops, seminars and workshops by small businesses: those events have really highlighted that Atlanta is a city about its business!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting any news business is never a smooth road. Now imagine starting one during a pandemic. Now imagine starting an event space during a pandemic. Now imagine doing it in a space that has been vacant for four years.
Struggles would be an understatement. First, we had to work with the building managers to get the place ready. Every time we fixed one thing another would need fixing. We had to redo floors three times, leaks in the roof, air conditioning problems; all in all it took an additional four months to get the place where we wanted.
The next struggle was operations. Based on the nature of the building, it required a unique business model. It meant the owners being very hands-on in the beginning, and eventually finding the right people to run the day to day events.

Next was making the space safe for clients during the pandemic. Constant new regulations required us to be efficient, agile, and thorough. Thankfully all of our clients were understanding, as they also understood the importance of safety.

But even with all those challenges, it was humbling and exciting and rewarding to have a business whose very nature is bringing people together. That has meant so much during these times of isolation and have made any struggles worth it. We know there will continue to be struggles as the business grows, but our motto is the quote: “if the position I am in today is a direct result of my past actions, then it certainly follows that where I want to be tomorrow is based on the actions I take today. So we must know how to act.”
We have understood to grow in any business you can’t just plan, but you must also be able to act and adjust.
