Exploring Life & Business with Paul-Lou Lemieux of Insouciant Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul-Lou Lemieux.

Paul-Lou Lemieux

Paul, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Paul-Lou Lemieux, I’m a film producer based in New York. It also happens that I produce projects in France, that’s where I come from (our origins always bring us back!).

I started with a film school in France for 3 years in the south (NICE) – which brought me on the 4th year to the city of New York. I’ve been filming or even acting since I was a kid and have always been interested in the commercial aspect of things and how things walk together. That makes me want to do business and support the art (film) industry. I guess it comes from my parents: my mother is an artist, and my father is a business owner.

I am now running my own company titled “INSOUCIANTS” (Insouciant Films LLC) with which I produce music videos and film fiction (short-feature projects). The next step is to expand and produce commercials.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Producing is the definition of struggling and finding solutions to problems. On set, many things can happen very quickly. This happens all the time to break or lose equipment on set, we have already broken down several trucks or lost money with dishonest customers.

As long as that remains technical (material) that wastes time or money – it’s not good for production, but it’s ok. Thank God we didn’t deal with employee (or human) accidents and that we always have a safe set. A lot, like nothing has been done. What I mean is that there is still a long way to go.

As you know, we’re big fans of Insouciant Films LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
INSOUCIANTS (Insouciant Films LLC) is a film production company that works in a family. It is a family that is getting bigger. We have a team, a crew that we usually bring on set to work and support every artistic project.

We produce films: music videos, commercials, and film fiction (from short to feature films). Every project for us is an adventure. We’re going to follow, support, and advise each step of the production of a film – from Development to Distribution.

When producing a music video, we’re going to work with directors to follow the vision they have with each artist. When producing a film, it’s a much longer and individual process to each film. The goal is to tell a story and entertain.

When producing a commercial, we follow the brand image and take it further. Whatever the project is, we will always bring our sensitivity (our references) into it and go deep in the reflections. I think that is what sets us apart from others.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
It’s not a very clear memory, because I was between 2 and 4 years old. But at that age, I lived in Saudi Arabia with my parents – and I have lots of vague images in my mind of the desert, water, air, and feelings that make me want to go back there sometimes.
