Exploring Life & Business with Paulette Kpannah-Jordan of Pure Health Medicine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulette Kpannah-Jordan.

Hi Paulette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I am originally from Caldwell Road, Liberia – West Africa, and moved to Georgia where I attended Berkmar High School and then went to Emory University School of Nursing. I have been in Georgia all my adult life and consider it my second home. I always knew that I wanted to be in the medical field which led me toward the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) route to ensure that I was making the right decision. I loved my job and made up my mind to be a nurse. After nursing school, I got my first job as a Cardiac Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and later transferred to the ICU. Through my years as a bedside nurse, I have seen the effects of disease on patients and their families. This has inspired me to further my education as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) because I believe that early disease detection and treatment will prevent hospitalization and improve patients’ quality of life.

One day, a former classmate who is also an FNP from undergraduate school reached out to me with an idea about starting a telehealth company together. I was hesitant at first because I had no idea how to run a business. When I finally made up my mind, she had already started her company. I was exhausted as a nurse from COVID and had my master’s degree, so I decided to open my own company while I worked as a nurse to finance it. I love helping people, and telemedicine has become more accessible due to COVID, which made me believe I was making the right decision. The entire idea was to do what I love from the comfort of my home or anywhere in the world. That’s how Pure Health Medicine came into being.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most small business owners, unfortunately, the road has not been smooth. Some of the struggles I have encountered and learned from along this journey is that mistakes and bad decisions cost money, but it has shaped me into becoming a better business owner and decision maker. Another struggle I have experienced is funding everything on my own and not taking out loans. It has taken a lot of budgeting and letting go of services that I did not deem worthy at that time.

We’ve been impressed with Pure Health Medicine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company, Pure Health Medicine, is a Telemedicine company that has been open for over 1.5 years. Our services include Acute Care (sinus infection, ear infection, strep throat, upper and lower respiratory infection, headaches, pinkeye, gout flare-up, etc.), Chronic Disease Management (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc.), Women’s Health (Urinary tract infection, yeast, infection, birth control, bacterial vaginosis, etc.) weight loss management (diet, exercise, and/or medication), Mental Health (depression, anxiety, bipolar, and OCD), medications refill for non-controlled substance, electronic lab work (order and interpretation), etc. The best part is that we provide affordable care for all of Georgia’s residents and have a supervising Medical Doctor on board. We also accept major insurance such as Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare, Medicaid, Humana, and United Healthcare. For those who don’t have insurance, debit and credit cards are accepted.

We have seen patient’s from various counties; patients who had to wait 3-6 months to see a medical provider; patients who have spent over 8 hours waiting at urgent care and still were not seen, and patients who simply cannot drive to see a medical provider. Of course, we refer patients to the urgent care, minute clinic, and the Emergency Department if warranted. The best part of telemedicine is that patients get same-day appointments, do not have to wait hours in the doctor’s office, and do not have to navigate Atlanta’s traffic or call off work to get seen. What sets Pure Health Medicine from other practices is that we care about our patients, make sure that their voice is heard, and that all their concerns/needs are met by the end of the visit. We also take our time to go over the treatment plan and make sure it is understood.

I am most proud of all the services we provide and the lives we have touched. We have helped hundreds of Georgia residents and provided top-notch telemedicine service. Not only is Pure Health medicine still growing, but we have over 130 five-star ratings which is a testament to how much patients value and love our services.

I want readers and future patients to know that when they choose us, they will be treated like family and not like a number. We meet patients where they are and work together to reach their healthcare goals as we encourage patients to be active participants in their care.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is that success takes time and that perseverance, consistency, and learning from my mistakes were the keys to making Pure Health Medicine a success.
