Exploring Life & Business with Jon Hill, Arlena Joyner, Omar Abdi and Daniel Uribe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Hill, Arlena Joyner, Omar Abdi and Daniel Uribe.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From humble beginnings as a small men’s team in a 5v5 league in Atlanta (Soccer in the Streets), Peachtree FC quickly expanded in-depth and attracted amazing talents.

Today, Peachtree runs a 5v5 co-ed team at their partner organization, Soccer in the Streets, two 7v7 teams at Silverbacks Park, and now – in alignment with their ultimate vision – they’ve made their way into the 11v11 football world in the ADASL and are showing promise to take on finals this summer season.

Peachtree FC is a uniquely diverse team, bringing together players from 17 different countries onto a single, united team and striving to foster a sense of community, diversity, and fun within the club. Off the field, they host BBQs with family and friends, FIFA tournaments, Premier League watch parties, and much more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t always been easy. We’ve faced a lot of hurdles.

There are hard decisions to make about rosters with limited spots and loyal players to the club.

COVID also was a clear obstacle for comfortably getting everyone together to play as much as we wanted to. And that chemistry, familiarity, and bonding between the guys is important for us to be successful as a team and build culture and community.

And as with any sort of “start-up” organization or business, understanding where you stand financially can be challenging. What are the key things we need to track in our books? Which vendors can we use to create quality and affordable merchandise?

On top of this, with our mission as a team to provide affordable access to competitive soccer, the other hurdle has been finding sustainable and scalable ways to gain sponsorships that allow our players of all walks of life financially — to be able to play the beautiful game (and afford it).

As you know, we’re big fans of Peachtree Football Club, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Peachtree Football Club, known simply as “Peachtree FC”, is a local Atlanta business, based in Midtown. We are a grassroots soccer club aligned on the values of community, diversity, and fun.

We have a roster filled with players from over 17 countries and many celebrated backgrounds that we’re so proud of. Diversity is at the core of what we do. Established in 2020, during a very divisive time in a divided city in the Southern United States, the goal to have racial and ethnic diversity on our team was and has been a mainstay and non-negotiable as we grow as a club.

Our offerings boil down to two things:

1) We absolutely love our fans, and the players work hard to deliver great performances for those who love to watch soccer and rally around local teams.

2) We have a full-fledged online merchandise store, hosted by The Queen’s Pantry. We sell Peachtree FC jerseys, scarves, season passes, and full-on fanwear for year-round wear. ALL proceeds are NOT pocketed, but instead go directly to lowering the cost of playing in the Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League (the league in which our team competes.)

What matters most to you?
Building a diverse community matters most to us. It is so far beyond soccer. Within our team, we have highly-decorated veterans, frontline workers, small business owners, students, activists & advocates for change in Atlanta, and many more. We are proud of every individual; to have their background, experience and perspective is a part of what makes Peachtree FC what it truly is today. Every player is a foundational piece in building our community, and without a single one, the team and the community isn’t quite as vibrant. Everyone’s presence matters.
