Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel C.
Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
July 26 will mark 4 years of being a Reiki Master and the day I launched my Reiki Healing with Rachel C business. What started me on this journey was my own need to heal. This story starts with a great loss. My Mom died April 25, 2018. And for the next two years, I struggled with my grief and trying to process how life goes on without her.
I had my first Reiki experience a year after my mom’s death. I had a friend who was a Reiki Master and told me that Reiki could help me. I didn’t know at the time what that would look like, but I was open to receiving help. It was the most profound experience! I could feel and hear a “Pop!” every time she was moving her hands to the next Chakra. For the next 2 months, I was experiencing my grief differently. I was able to be present in life, and the grief wasn’t drowning me.
Another year goes by. A year filled with yoga & sound baths. My Healing journey was taking me through a variety of deep old feelings and narratives I had been living my life by. It was time to change those narratives, become mindful, and choose different ways to respond to life. I’m also an empath and I feel everything so deeply. I feel other people’s feelings. And I wasn’t in a place to feel my own grief and take on other people’s on top of my own.
After a sound bath with Daniel Hall, she recommended I look into taking a Reiki 1 & 2 class. She shared that it would help me protect and clear my energy. That’s when I found Beacons of Change.
By the end of my Reiki 2 class, I knew I needed to become a Reiki Master. I had seen and felt the change in my own life and wanted to be able to attune others to Reiki. Reiki helped me prioritize myself, and fill my cup up first. I was also shedding old hurts, guilts, and pain that I have been carrying with me that no longer served me.
When I completed my Reiki master certification, which took three months, I noticed the Reiki was also shifting other things out of my life that no longer served me and adding to my life the things that I needed. One of those being the love of my life, my now wife, Rosario.
Opportunities started to arise because of this union. Rosario supports the work that I’m doing with Reiki and told me it would be OK to leave my safe corporate 9 to 5 job to pursue my passion of Reiki full-time. Thanks to her support and encouragement, I did. I started seeing remote clients full-time, and with that, the opportunity of working at Visionary Healing arose, so I could see people in person. I was with them for almost 3 years.
And now, I am at Dancing Dogs Yoga studio two days a week. I feel like I have come full circle because Shelly from DDY introduced me to Daniel Hall, who then told me to do Reiki and now I’m partnered with DDY. I know it’s not the end of my story, and it’s just another turn in the road. On the horizon, I see Reiki coming together with my breathwork certification that I am currently going through. I know cultivating larger experiences for groups of people is in my near future.
I’m excited to see how my Reiki can expand beyond just seeing people one-on-one. I know that energy work, breath work, meditation, & yoga are only one piece of the puzzle that’s very important for people to self-regulate. These practices help people retrain their nervous system to come down from this constant fighter flight to come into a rest and relaxed state, and from there, your body can then be ready to do deeper healing.
I’m determined and excited to keep sharing Reiki with people, whether it be one-on-one in-person sessions, remote, or in-group experiences.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Things seem to fall into place, but I wouldn’t say the road has been smooth. This is my first business endeavor, and I started it by myself. The struggle of knowing everything that you need to have in place when starting a business is definitely a learning curve.
Then, of course, the struggle of informing people about Reiki and getting people to book Reiki Sessions with me. Reiki is a hard sale. It’s not a massage. It’s not a workout class. You come, and you lie down for 30 to 45 min, being still and silent. That might be more challenging than holding a plank for 30 seconds for most people.
It’s hard to convince people of the profound effect that Reiki can have. To help, I did a lot of social media trying to get the word out, trying to educate people about what Reiki is, how it works, and what to expect in a session. Social media is its own beast that I’m not quite sure I know how to tame.
It didn’t help starting a business during the pandemic when everyone was isolated. Remote Reiki works beautifully, but for people’s first time, not knowing what it is or what to expect, it’s hard for people to hold that space on their own.
Even when having a place to see people in-person and there’s a lot of interest. There’s a lot of people who are excited about Reiki or heard about it and want to experience it for themselves. The struggle now is getting those people to book a session, to make time for themselves to experience Reiki. It is hard for people to be consistent and engage in their own self-care.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Reiki Healing with Rachel C.?
Right now, you can find me Sundays and Mondays from 9 AM to 7 PM at Dancing Dogs Yoga studio. I’m available for In-person Reiki sessions. You just book through DDY’s mind-body page. You’ll see tabs at the top for classes, workshops, massage, and Reiki. Then, you just select me, Rachel C, as your Reiki practitioner.
The rest of the week, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, I’m available for remote Reiki.
I also hand-make Mala Prayer Beads and energize them with Reiki. Malas are a lovely & beautiful tool to use during your meditation. They help you connect you to your breath & you use mantras and affirmations while using them. You can find my malas at DDY in their Wellness Room, or you can go online to my Etsy page. I also take custom orders, so if you have a design in mind, I can help make that vision come to life.
And always keep your eye out for events and experiences. I tend to partner with Recovery Studio & Positive Sound Vibes. I also am planning events & workshops with DDY for later this year.
You will also see me at a table at the Dirty South Yoga Festival this August. Come find me and receive a Free 10-minute Reiki Chair Session.
What makes you happy?
Is it cheesy if I say Reiki? I really really enjoy having Reiki sessions with people, whether they’re remote or in-person. Why? Because I feel I am fulfilling my dharma, my purpose.
Other things that make me happy would be: sunshine, spring, the ocean, reading a good book, cooking with my wife, Rosario. We make really good food. We eat well! Spending time with my dear friends and family makes me happy. Taking care of my plants. I am a happy plant mommy. All of these fill up my heart & soul. They help me recharge & give me energy.
Those are a few things that make me happy & why. Many things make me happy. I think it’s the simple things in life that can bring us the most joy when we are mindful enough to recognize them.
