Today we’d like to introduce you to Ravijaa Mehta.
Hi Ravijaa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Roobaroo at nineteen, at an age when most people are still learning who they are. I was learning what was missing.
I spent my early years around artists—singers, poets, musicians—watching them give everything they had to a room and leave with nothing but applause. Talent was never the problem. Opportunity was. At the same time, I saw cafés and restaurants searching for ways to feel alive, to become places people remembered rather than just visited.
Roobaroo was born from that intersection.
What began as a small open-mic initiative soon became a deeper commitment: to build a platform where artists were not treated as background noise, but as the heart of an experience. I didn’t want to create events—I wanted to create possibility. Roobaroo became my way of proving that creativity, when supported by intention and structure, can thrive.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting young meant being doubted before I was heard.
There were moments when my age spoke louder than my ideas. Convincing venues to trust me, convincing artists to believe in yet another platform, and convincing myself to keep going when things didn’t work out—these were daily battles.
With no roadmap and no safety net, I learned by doing. I handled everything myself, often making mistakes and fixing them in real time. Expanding across cities brought exhaustion, uncertainty, and the constant pressure of holding together something built on people and trust.
When the pandemic brought live performances to a halt, it felt like the ground disappeared beneath my feet. But it also gave me clarity. I realised that Roobaroo was bigger than events—it was about resilience, community, and rebuilding even when the stage goes dark.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Roobaroo?
Over time, Roobaroo grew into a cultural platform that quietly left its mark.
We have brought together hundreds of artists, partnered with dozens of venues, and reached thousands of audience members across multiple cities, including Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, and Mumbai. Each event wasn’t just a performance—it was a moment where art met opportunity.
Today, Roobaroo is evolving into a platform that helps artists get discovered, build confidence, and access consistent opportunities, while enabling spaces to become hubs of culture and expression.
For me, Roobaroo is proof that youth entrepreneurship isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about asking better questions and refusing to look away from the gaps that matter.
Sometimes, all it takes to start is noticing what’s broken and choosing to build anyway.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Entrepreneurship taught me that belief is a skill.
Running Roobaroo required persistence when progress was invisible, empathy when people needed reassurance, and discipline when passion alone wasn’t enough. I learned to listen—to artists finding their voice, to spaces finding their identity, and to myself when growth felt uncomfortable.
My background in law, marketing, and management helped me bring structure to creativity, but what truly shaped Roobaroo was staying close to the community it served. Leading with empathy while making tough decisions became a defining strength.
The most essential quality behind Roobaroo is conviction—the courage to build something meaningful even when there is no guarantee it will work.
