Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Tillery.
Hi Ray, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been in the Heating and Air Industry my entire life. For as long as I can remember I have been servicing and installing heating and cooling units for people. I started to tinker around 14-15 and started my actual career just after high school. I have worked for numerous HVAC companies around the metro Atlanta and Athens areas and learned a great deal from each and everyone that I have been employed with. Finally, in 2021, my wife and I decided to take a huge leap of faith and begin our own Heating and Air company. It took me several months to get the paperwork submitted and approved to be able to take the test to get my license, but the minute that I passed my test, we began R Tillery Heating and Air, LLC. My wife is a technology specialist for a Gwinnett County school and she helped me to get all of the materials needed to launch the company, the logo, website, listing on Google, and more. We applied for our Business License and got straight to work. The company name, R Tillery, came easily for us and we have enjoyed some play on words with the name. We are working to keep our company family owned and operated as much as we can and my nephew has joined our team in a service tech role with us recently. Right now we are on a small scale, but we are working hard every day to grow and serve our surrounding communities.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think that there is anyone who can say starting a business for themselves is a smooth road. There are always bumps and potholes along the way. Getting it up and going was a long process, not difficult, just long. As in most small companies our biggest challenge now is getting the word out to a larger audience, bringing in the customers and having enough time and people to meet the needs of the ones we have already. While growth is always welcome, it also comes with its own set of challenges.
We’ve been impressed with R Tillery Heating and Air, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
R Tillery Heating and Air is a family-owned and operated business. We take pride in knowing that our family strives to take care of other families every day. We have been a part of Gwinnett and the surrounding areas our entire lives and enjoy working and living within the same area. We provide honest estimates and assessments of the units we inspect and work hard to ensure that the customer gets accurate, timely, and reasonable feedback and prices. We guarantee our work, are licensed and insured and treat our customers like they are a part of the R Tillery family. When you call us, we will work to accommodate your needs on your schedule and time frame. It is about what the customer needs to get on with their lives and be comfortable in their own homes, whether it is keeping it cool in the summer or warm and comfy in the winter. R Tillery won’t stop until the problem is solved or the unit is working up to its utmost potential. Replacement is wonderful, but not everyone can replace, so we will do our very best to repair what can be fixed and we will do it with a smile!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness to me is being with my family. My wife and I have been married for 14 years, together 15. We have two children of our own and two more from previous marriages. We love to travel and explore. We are adventurous and on the go. I am most happy when I am with my family and we are enjoying time spent together. My youngest son, who is 13, has started to show an interest in helping me with the HVAC industry and even tinkers like I used to as a young boy. The thought that we might one day run the company together is something that I dream of!
