Today we’d like to introduce you to Renika Smiley.
Hi Renika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

“I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life,” says Smiley, founder of Generation NOW, a community-based nonprofit for young professionals. “My weight has fluctuated dramatically throughout my life. My self-esteem and insecurities are at their highest when I know I won’t be able to wear the fashion designs I want because most stuff in stores won’t suit my frame.”
Smiley explains that she would go through unhealthy phases in order to maintain or lose weight in order to fit into a desired size. Pieces in The Lusheous Collection suit your size, whatever it may be, she says.
“For myself and other plus-sized women, I wanted to make a difference,” Smiley notes. “As a result, I made the decision to open a fashion boutique so women can still feel comfortable, voluptuous, and luscious at any size.”

June 24th Lusheous Collection will host a Plus Size Photoshoot in Atlanta, GA from 2pm to 5pm. The shoot will be with Photographer Terrel Antoni Media at 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave NE, Suite H Atlanta, GA 30312. This shoot will also feature segment of the reality show for plus-size women, “Curves In The City”. Local On-Air Personality Jasmyne Flowers will be in attendance.
Lusheous Collection Inc. set will be featured in Goodlyfe Productions Atlanta Fashion Week 5th Annual Queens with Curves Show on Sunday, June 25th, 2023 7pm to 11:55pm at Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Airport South 4698 Southport Road College Park, GA 30337

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest struggle was that I had to pause business for a couple of weeks due to my mother Wanda Easterling passing of Pancreatic Cancer a little under two weeks after my 34th birthday on October 29th. But my mother was known for her stylish fashion and dress. My mother loved my clothing boutique for plus-size women. She loved the quality of clothes and with my mother’s love and support, I pushed through the day after her death to vendor an event to sell clothes.
The other obstacles I faced was with manufacturing companies quality of clothes, lost shipments, fail systems that needed improvements.
