Hi Robert, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been a profound transformation, driven by personal experiences that reshaped my entire perspective on life. It all began during an 11-year journey with my late wife, Desiree, who was diagnosed at a young age with metastatic breast cancer. As her caregiver, I unintentionally found myself assuming the role of a life coach, providing support, encouragement, and guidance through the challenges we faced.
Incredibly, drawing on a range of life skills I amassed as the child of an abusive alcoholic father, Desiree and I lived a life of joy. Those skills and wisdom gained from many of the ancient philosophers and spiritual practices allowed us to live around adversity. My goal was not to allow adversity to be the dominant color on the canvas of our life but to act as an accent color for joy.
Her journey and eventual passing led me to question the very essence of life and purpose. I realized that my path as a finance executive, while comfortable, was no longer aligned with the newfound perspective I had gained. The magnitude of impermanence and the importance of living authentically became vividly clear to me.
After her passing, I embarked on a profound inner journey of my own. I felt compelled to share the lessons learned and insights gained from our experiences. This calling led me to transition from the finance world to becoming a life coach, author, and speaker.
Leaving the familiar behind, I found a new home in Italy, a place that resonated with the sense of renewal and possibility I was seeking. This move symbolized the profound shift in my purpose and outlook.
Today, I’m dedicated to helping others transform their lives, navigate adversity, and discover their true potential. My philosophy, Possibility in Action™, centers on embracing impermanence, living intentionally, and breaking free from societal norms. I encourage individuals to challenge fear, embrace their uniqueness, and craft their lives as masterpieces of purpose and authenticity.
My journey has shown me that from the depths of grief and uncertainty, remarkable transformation can emerge. I’ve learned that life is a delicate dance of gains and losses, and by reimagining our paths, we can create new possibilities. My purpose now is to guide others on this journey of self-discovery and intentional living. One that will lead them to escape conformity, reimagine life, and live as Possibility in Action™. It’s a journey that I personally continue to embrace every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, if I were to sum up my journey, I’d call it a thrilling roller coaster ride through uncharted territories! Right from the beginning, life threw some wild curveballs my way. Growing up in the shadow of an abusive alcoholic father turned my childhood into an intensive crash course on life’s complexities. As they say, tough situations can truly be our most enlightening instructors. Honestly, I am truly thankful for that boot camp because it gave me what I needed to navigate the journey with Desiree’s cancer and eventual passing.
When she passed, my life script underwent a dramatic rewrite. The domain of finance, where I had played a leading role, suddenly felt like a different narrative altogether. Having witnessed the fragility of existence up close, those lessons from my tumultuous past transformed into potent tools that empowered me to confront the ambiguity that lay ahead.
Now, let’s talk about plot twists and hairpin turns! It dawned on me that my new mission was to accompany others on their unique life expeditions. I traded in crunching numbers for facilitating growth, transitioning from boardrooms to heart-centered dialogues. And to add a pinch of audacity, I decided to relocate continents and start afresh in the enchanting embrace of Italy. It was akin to handing my life’s screenplay an unexpected twist that no one could have foreseen.
But life, they say, isn’t bound by scripts, right? Challenges and I became quite the dynamic duo on this exhilarating adventure. Bidding adieu to my comfort zone, my community, and the familiar tracks of my career wasn’t exactly a leisurely stroll. There were moments of doubt, seas of uncertainty, and instances when my life’s GPS seemed to have a mind of its own.
To make it even more interesting, I did not know anyone in Italy. I did not speak the language nor have a job or place to live. I arrived with two suitcases, having sold the rest of my belongings, and asked myself, “What’s next?”. The thing is, something everyone could do is that I decided I wanted to write an incredible adventure novel inspired by my unexpected life quake. I didn’t dwell in the fear of “what if I fail,” but rather in the excitement of “what if I succeed?”
So, a smooth road? Not quite. However, every jolt, every detour, they collectively injected character into this remarkable odyssey. These experiences urged me to test the boundaries of my resilience, question my preconceptions, and uncover a renewed sense of purpose. And you know what? I wouldn’t exchange any of those rugged fragments because they guided me to where I stand today – supporting others as they embrace their distinct paths, just as I learned to embrace mine. From the hurdles of my early years to the bedside of my late wife, these chapters equipped me with the strength and wisdom to reimagine existence, confront ambiguity, and craft a life pulsating with purpose and potential.

That being said. Hmm, diving into the memory bank, there’s this moment that stands out. Before the days of posting episodes online, Desiree and I had the incredible opportunity to be on Oprah. Let me tell you, I was a bundle of emotions and mushiness. I might have even shed a tear or two, okay, maybe more than a few. Offline, Oprah said I had the ugly cry, haha. But when it came to talking about Des and our journey, I couldn’t help but beam with pride and get lost in the love we shared.
Some folks are in the know about this, but not many have actually seen the episode. It’s like a little hidden gem from the past that shaped my journey in more ways than I can describe. So there you have it, a behind-the-scenes peek into a moment that’s close to my heart.

You see, I’ve always firmly believed in stacking life’s deck with as many options as possible. And here’s a little secret that not many people are privy to – it’s like my personal treasure trove of Plan B’s and C’s that I had tucked away when I took that daring leap of faith and relocated to Italy.
So, it’s common knowledge that, after leaving Dubai, I found myself teaching English in the heart of Rome, Italy. But English teaching was just one among the multitude of contingency plans I had meticulously laid out as stepping stones towards my grand reimagining. None of these backup plans stemmed from a burning desire to pursue those jobs, but in my opinion, when you’re forging a new path in life, you’ve got to bring in an array of tools to construct the bridges to those fresh dreams. No shame in a Columbia MBA making $8/hour to teach English – in fact, it’s a source of pride, knowing I was doing what was necessary to construct the foundation of my new life.
Now, onto the “secret” – I went all in with backup plans, even earning a bartender’s license. Ironically, I never did end up using it, but it was there, ready to bolster the larger vision of completing my coaching certification after stepping out of the comfort zone of my finance career.
You see, it’s all about investments, both short and long term, that lay the groundwork for new beginnings. Life is akin to a puzzle, and I was meticulously gathering the pieces to ensure that my canvas would be adorned with all the colors it required. My mission revolves around ushering fresh possibilities into reality which I live with every breath I take. It’s the very essence of the art of reimagining, and I’m here to assure you – there’s always a pathway to transforming dreams into reality.
