Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Evans.
Robin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m the owner of Chicks with Triggers! Chicks with Triggers is a South Carolina based self defense company that specializes primarily in firearms. I’m a certified firearm instructor for both the NRA and the state of SC. I’m located in Greenville, SC but I do classes all over the state as well as in Georgia and North Carolina. I started Chicks with Triggers because there is a clear attack on women…whether it be sex trafficking, human trafficking, domestic violence, murder or rape…it all must stop! Women are the minority in this country however when it comes to being victims of horrific and violent crimes, we are the majority. That’s where I come in. I’m here to teach women to protect themselves and to be their own first responders by ANY MEANS NECESSARY! It’s time for us to level the playing field and take our power back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been extremely smooth! I expected some hurdles along the way but I was completely wrong! Women have welcomed both me and my business in all the communities that I work in! I think this is something they didn’t know they needed until it was there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The classes that I offer range from all experience levels. Whether you’re just starting out or been shooting all of your life…I have a class for you. Along with basic pistol classes, I also offer advanced pistol classes, tactical classes, knife fighting and hand-to-hand combat classes. We believe a women should be able to defend herself and her family from every angle.
The concept of Chicks with Triggers is a whole vibe of its own! It is far from what the “standard” firearm business is or looks like. We know representations matter, and being a black-owned, woman-owned business in this industry was almost non-existent. While I wanted to create an environment where black women were gaining the information they needed, I had to make it a vibe for us. Women show up and see that other women and the instructor look like them, share similar backgrounds and beliefs, and show up just as they are.
I’ve built Chicks with Triggers to be a vibe. We even listen to music from Rihanna, Beyoncé and Cardi B, there’s no judgment, and all my guns are have luxury attached. Whether it’s Louis Vuitton guns, Tiffany blue guns, or hot pink guns, you’re getting a valuable experience while being comfortable handling firearms. That’s what my brand is all about. Educating black women in how to have that bad b*tch energy while being authentic to who they are and protecting themselves at the same time.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
For anyone out there who is looking for an instructor or a mentor in this industry, just make sure they are qualified and you’ve done your research on them. Every instructor out here isn’t necessarily good. Make sure they are relatable and that you vibe with them.
I want all the women reading this to know that you have the power in you to fight back. You have the power in your stand up for yourself and your family. It’s always been in you. I’m just here to help you manifest it into reality.
