Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocki Patrice.
Hi Rocki, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started of as an artist when I was 14 years old. I wanted to be the female Wayne or Jay Z and I position myself to be exactly that. With lyrical content that superseded anyone coming up in music with me, male or female. I was one of the greatest with the skill sets of or better than the greats that came before me. I was in a group called Kartell with friends from school. We won talent shows and did local hip hop theater plays and was managed by Dirty who also the Ying Yang twin’s manager, allowing us to work with them at their home studio. I started my solo career with a three-song demo. That allowed me to further my journey and network with more opportunities. By the time I was 18, I had collaborated with many legendary artists with feature shows and much more. To name a few Boosie, BG, Jim Jones, Mr. Big (rip) Juvenile, Michael Blackson, but one that really resonates was Pimp C. My crew STREET ENT OPENS UP FOR PIMP C IN MOBILE AL, AND HE DIED THE NEXT WEEK. So I’ll never forget I was one of the few to last see him out of an entire world. May he rest in peace.
Still on my journey to become the biggest in rap like Wayne or Jay Z. I mastered wordplay and delivery, but I struggled with songwriting after a series of losses that consumed my emotions. I felt way too vulnerable on wax. So it wouldn’t be long that I would transition to more of a female Jay Z on the rise. I began to learn the business and my first clients was little to no pay in order to gain experience. Those doors opened more doors, and before you know it, I would be a power source in the Atlanta hip hop entertainment community. I’ve managed legends such as Benzino, who really manages himself. I mean honestly, he is a legend. I helped him, and I’m sure he will agree. But I learned from him. And for that, I’m honored. I’ve produced movies “Vanity Vixens” being my first opportunity with a movie. I produced my own TV show “Wrap Session “ landing interviews with Just Brittney of Love and hip hop, Gail Bean of Snowfall, and others. The goal was to take the show to a network. But the management company I started, MAKE ME OVER MANAGEMENT had taken me all around the country working, so I had to put it down.
With having many talents organizing all the services I provide became a challenge so it started to be a one or the other in seasons. However, all the work created more work.
I’m now the owner of Make Me Over Management, Make Me Over Events, and Make Me Over Productions. Our motto is don’t make it up, make it over. I was inspired to start this brand after overcoming so many obstacles on my way up. Losing my mom and my brother would be the hardest of them all. But with struggles of grief, depression, and anxiety !! I didn’t turn to drugs to suppress. I didn’t let myself go and lay in my mess. I fault hard to recreate myself for growth purposes and that’s what my brand is all about. We build the brand, manage the brand, and then protect it!! Some people have compared me to Olivia Pope from the TV series scandal. The was a fictional character, but she represented a woman in power and getting things done. They say your like the Olivia pope of entertainment.
Today I’m nationwide with my clientele base. Still growing and building. And I don’t plan on letting up no time soon. I said female Wayne or Jay Z right. With my lyrical ability and business ambitions I’m still on track to be exactly that. “ I’m a student of the game even after I graduate! Meaning, I’m always learning and growing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a female, it’s hard to stand up for yourself without it translating to being emotional, so I have done work I don’t get credit for and lost relationships I never wanted to lose.
Also, death has been a big challenge, rap peers, family, and clients have all left too soon, triggering anxiety and depression from a series of losses that felt very abnormal to me. You find ur self highlighted in life and nobody around to appreciate where you come from to where you are mainly cause many of the key people are now angles.
Managing a work-life balance with raising a child as a single parent. My daughter is now 14, so that has become easier; however, the goal is to do what Beyoncé is doing. Take your kids with you and pay them to work.
Lastly dating as a power source, you never know the true intentions of someone trying to get close to you. You can’t date an Average Joe; he is intimidated by the lifestyle, you can’t date a partner, and you lose much more than you bargained for when it fails. Finding the right powerful man to collaborate love business, and support is challenging, so it’s put on the back burner. But we’re human, we still desire companionship but we sacrifice for success.
We’ve been impressed with Make Me Over Management LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company has spent 15 years vetting out how to develop a brand/ artist in entertainment. So we offer the best of the best in visuals, sound, social development, roll-out campaigns, playlisting distribution negotiations, and consulting.
I’m most proud of the resilience of this company after now being in business for six years. It hasn’t been easy but we are growing constantly and collaborating with other big brands. The shhh show global, stuey rock of hot 107.9, coalition DJ, I mean the more we build with each other, we’re all growing together. I’m proud to be reliable in getting my duties done that I can collaborate with so many influential brands.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned to build the brand, manage the brand, and protect the brand. But in the event that your clients need more than you offer, know how to advise them to do that. Don’t hold them back to keep the relationship. Many people do not work you working if it’s not with them.
