Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Shantel Nock grew up in a single-family home, categorized in poverty social economic status. At an early age, she was faced with several natural disparities and limitations. Shantel knew that she wanted to break the cycle of poverty. As a young child, she had no idea exactly the steps she was going to take. Growing up, her mother instilled the faith of God and good work ethic. To avoid the distractions and cycles that she witnessed, books and homework became her outlet. So much so that in high school, she became extremely involved in the school, where she established great relationships with students, teachers, and administrators. She found favor with the school administrator and custodial staff, resulting in her having access to the library even after regular school hours. Shantel dedicated her focus to studying, taking dual enrollment classes, and applying for college and scholarships. Shantel’s former high school counselor also provided support to help find and apply for resources. During her transition from high school to undergraduate, she accrued over $80,000 worth of scholarships, including the Bill Gates Scholarship to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Through her faith, she realized that life was more than degrees, money, and achievements. After being mentored by a Business Coach, she started her own business entitled Empower With Words.
