Hi Shevon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a wife and mother of two. Working in the health care field for over 12 years with elderly, I needed an outlet and the hair industry did it for me. I’ve always had a passion for hair. I even did hair on the side as a hobby in my kitchen. Around 2011, virgin hair really hit the scene and I wanted to get my hands on it! After a year of research, trial and error with good and bad vendors, figuring out a logo and a business name we launched in Lagrange, GA. It started out as a group business and after life took over, that died down. I never stopped selling hair, I only sold hair to people that knew me and by word of mouth, not really advertising like I should, just treating it as a hobby. Of course we all know this industry is booming and I didn’t want to let my dreams die. I made up in my mind two years ago after relocating to Marietta that I wanted to try again! I renamed the business 29th & Glam Extensions, properly structured it, created a website, invested in a branding shoot and launched May of 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Whew! Once I decided to really invest in my business, I took business classes, joined groups and spent time doing a ton of research on how to properly run a business. It has been full of late nights, early morning, tears, wanting to give up and everything in between. I knew God has a bigger plan so I kept pushing!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize is luxury hair extensions, giving you the best quality for your investment. I 100% stand behind my extensions, I’ve had customers that keep their hair for over three years. I have hair that is five years old and it still wear like it’s brand new. We offer bundles, closures, frontals and units. I take pride in providing excellent customer service. I am so proud of my brand, it’s like my baby, at first I was nervous and unsure but over time it has flourished! I provide wholesale options for inspiring business owners who want to start their own hair company. I’ve help three companies get their start. 29th & Glam also provides cranial prothesis for customers suffering hair loss. I want my readers to know that even though there are a million companies out there just like you, what sets you apart is YOU! If I can do so can you! Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Do your research to understand your target audience and your market. A logo and a social media page does not make your business legit. Take the necessary steps to build your business on a solid foundation, structure it properly and surround yourself with like-minded people. Remain coachable, in the like of an entrepreneur you will never stop learning. I had no idea what business credit was and now I’m learning and tapping into it. You definitely get out what you put in, stay focused and consistent! You can do it!!
