Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Jennings.
Hi Theresa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This is such a loaded question for me to answer, but I’ll do my best to summarize! Nick and I have always shared a passion for hospitality, and from early on we talked about the idea that one day we might open a restaurant together. For a long time, though, it felt like a distant dream—something we imagined for the future rather than something we were actively planning.
The opportunity actually came to us unexpectedly. We were driving through the surrounding neighborhood looking to purchase our first home together. As we were wrapping up and heading back, we passed a small restaurant space with a big “For Lease” sign in the window. I remember feeling the car slow down as Nick pulled out his phone to take a photo. Before I knew it, he was sitting me down and telling me we were going to open a restaurant.
I never could have imagined that Season would grow into what it is today. From the very beginning, it has been rooted in a passion not only for serving high-quality food, but for doing so with genuine care and hospitality. More than anything, Season has been built on the relationships we’ve been fortunate enough to cultivate within this community, and that support has truly shaped our journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Very candidly—no, it has not been a smooth road. Opening a restaurant is an incredibly challenging venture on its own, but doing so with your partner adds another layer of complexity.
Nick and I are both very passionate about what we do, but in the beginning it took time for us to refine how we communicate and work toward a shared vision. About six months into opening, we had what we jokingly call a bit of a “come to Jesus” moment. There were some honest conversations and personal things we had to work through in order to truly function as partners—not just in marriage, but in business.
What helped us most was returning to the foundation of our faith. Our relationship with the Lord became a guiding force for us, reminding us to slow down, reset our priorities, and trust that this journey was bigger than either of us trying to control every detail. Letting go of that need for control and trusting in His plan transformed how we approach both our relationship and the way we operate Season today.
Because of that growth, the challenges we faced early on have ultimately made the experience of building this business together even more meaningful and rewarding.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Season?
Season is a Chef’s Kitchen. It’s built on a passion for hospitality. That starts with a warm greeting as soon as you walk in, informed staff that are eager and excited to share all of our offerings with you, and a menu with so much thought and creativity behind it that you can’t get anywhere else. We aren’t here just to feed people that are hungry. We want to redefine what a dining experience can be. There’s no cutting corners. We are proud of all of the ingredients we serve. We are so intentional when it comes to what we offer whether it’s serving no seed oils, cooking everything to order, the technique we use to compose our pancake batter, or the method in which we grind our coffee, everything is done with so much intention.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is that Season reflects exactly who we are. It’s a place where hospitality, quality, and creativity come together in a way that feels genuine. At the end of the day, we want our guests to feel cared for, inspired by the food, and excited to come back and experience it again.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around my closest friend from middle school, Fernanda, whom I truly consider family. I didn’t have the most traditional upbringing—my mom was very sick when I was younger—so I spent a lot of time with Fernanda and her family.
Being with them meant being surrounded by an incredible amount of love, warmth, and of course, amazing food. One of the memories that stands out most is sitting around their table enjoying the most delicious home-cooked Peruvian meals. It wasn’t just about the food, though—it was about the feeling of being welcomed into a family that cared so deeply for one another and embraced me as if I were one of their own.
Looking back now, those moments around the table, filled with laughter, love, and incredible cooking, left a lasting impression on me and shaped the way I think about food, hospitality, and what it means to truly care for people.
