Hi Tiana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Have you ever seen the Disney Movie with princess Tiana? She struggled and worked hard to reach her dreams, and she didn’t let anything stand in her way. Well, she is me; except my story isn’t so pretty. For almost ten years, I was in and out of the Women’s Shelter, going from couch to couch, sleeping in cars and run down motels. It wasn’t easy, and just when I thought I had it together, I got caught up in some things and a felony was slapped on my background. My record is clean and clear now, and I’m in the process of purchasing a home, but all of it brought me exactly where I needed to be. Being a homeless felon with bad credit was, I can’t even begin to describe how it feels when it seems there is no way out. That’s how I ended up in the credit repair business. My desire to have a home that no one could take from me was the drive I needed to fix my own. Not only that but, man I’ve had a lot of businesses over the years and every venture I started, I always came out of pocket for. That is until I discovered Business Credit. I recognized that other entrepreneurs also used their hard-earned money to fund their business and that’s when I started Hood Rich Essentials. Simply put we’re a personal and business credit company that helps business owners obtain funding through credit, loans and grants.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. The biggest obstacle is getting people to trust me because of the stigma put on credit repair companies. People out here scamming! Also, if it isn’t getting people to trust us, it’s getting them to understand that credit repair is not an overnight process! Period. As far as helping businesses build their business credit, I’m going to keep it real; a lot of African Americans don’t know about it. We are finally getting to a point where we talk about the need for generational wealth and how to obtain it. So, getting them to see that there is definitely a need for business credit if they truly want to be successful has also been a struggle. I’ve also dealt with personal struggles. I can say I am my own worst enemy, and I tend to get inside my own head and try to talk myself out of things. I doubt my abilities to get where I want to be in life and I sometimes ask myself if I deserve it, and you know what? I do deserve it, so it’s all good.
