Today we’d like to introduce you to Vince Truong.
Hi Vince, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started off as an intern at Full Moon Studio through the Music Business Program at UGA. I did grunt work, which meant helping the owner, Jay Rodgers, with whatever he needed. This included loading in gear for sound gigs, cleaning the studio, and other stuff along those lines. I asked a lot of questions and wanted to learn as much as I could. When my internship ended, I started working as an engineer there. I recorded anything and anyone, from hip-hop to folk. I also began running sound at Nowhere Bar. From that, I met a ton of people who needed a competent sound guy for other gigs and started working with other venues and bands. I used that experience to eventually start touring as a monitor engineer for Gavin Adcock, who also records at Full Moon Studio. It quickly went from van life, to an RV, to one tour bus, to 2 tour busses all within half a year. It was like a rocket ship and I was lucky enough to be thrown into it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting out fresh in music is always a struggle no matter what. I used to sleep on the studio couch for like 2 years because I wanted to spend more time at the studio without having to worry about keeping up with rent while trying to finish school. All my time was spent in class, at my serving job, at a sound gig, or in the studio. I was so fascinated with audio that I sacrificed a lot to focus on it. Everyone thought I was depressed, which was funny because I was actually the exact opposite. I had a goal, and I enjoyed the experiences that came with trying to achieve it, even with all the struggles along the way. It’s hard to complain when you can wake up and just be instantly surrounded by what you love to do. At least that’s the way I thought about it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m the studio manager for Full Moon Studio. It’s one of the few recording studios around the Atlanta area that’s both reasonably priced and has the ability to truly record and mix anything. This makes it a place where artists can create music with engineers who have the capability and tools to turn an idea into a full-fledged song for a price that serious upcoming artists can afford. We have a huge live room that has been quoted as one of the best sounding rooms in the southeast. We also have isolation booths, 3 mixing/production rooms, and music school next door. Not a lot of other studios have what we have, and if they do, they either charge an insane amount of money or the equipment they have isn’t up to par. Artists such as Megan Moroney, Lil Darius, and John Mayer have recorded here, and Gavin Adcock still comes down from Nashville to use our space because of what we offer. All the engineers here love what they do and love helping artists achieve their vision.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can collaborate with me through the studio website. Just send an inquiry, and we’ll get everything sorted out!
