Exploring Life & Business with Zykevise Gamble of Good Girls x Good Guys Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zykevise Gamble.

Hi Zykevise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Zykevise Gamble from Belmont, North Carolina. During high school, my passion for service was ignited as a Holy Angels volunteer, a non-profit serving those living with intellectual developmental disabilities in my hometown. At a young age, I knew attending an undergraduate institution with service at its core was important to me as I prepared to begin my journey towards becoming a physician.

I earned my BS in Health, Human Performance, and Leisure Studies from Howard University and my MPH in Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences from Emory University. My pre-medical journey began as an Outreach Assistant at the Howard University Student Health Center. There, I received my first introduction into public health. As an Outreach Assistant, I had the opportunity to lead on-campus STD/HIV testing and design food access programs for undergraduate students. Additionally, I served as a Healthy Foods Intern at Martha’s Table, a non-profit focused on increasing food access to underserved groups in Washington, DC.

These experiences led me on a non-traditional route into medicine through enrolling at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. While at Rollins, I had the opportunity to conduct innovative research focusing on addressing the social needs of mothers living in Atlanta. Additionally, I served as President of the Association of Black Public Health Students, where I cultivated a space for community and belonging through hosting monthly lunch and learns, service projects, and networking students with potential mentors. Notably, I was recognized as a 2025 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award recipient and as a 2025 Student DEI Leadership Award recipient by Emory University.

Currently, I am a Dr. James A. Ferguson Research Fellow at Wayne State School of Medicine, focused on wastewater surveillance and enhancing community health knowledge.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My professional journey has been met with challenges related to imposter syndrome. While navigating academic spaces as a first-generation Black student, I sometimes felt limited in my ability to achieve my academic and professional goals. However, through faith and a supportive community, I have slowly developed the tools to combat imposter syndrome when negative thoughts related to my skillset, abilities, and identity fill my mind.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I serve as the Co-Founder of Good Girls x Good Guys Inc., a non-profit rooted in service, equity, and community engagement. The organization was founded in January 2022 with a mission to provide scholarships to high school students, support undergraduate students with food vouchers, and offer financial assistance for standardized tests. Good Girls x Good Guys Inc. is unique in that it focuses on community engagement through partnerships with small businesses and academic institutions. These partnerships allow the organization to have a meaningful impact within Atlanta. So far, we have had the opportunity to provide three Atlanta high school students with scholarships to attend the University of Southern California and the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am proud of the growth and impact my organization has made and look forward to collaborating with other organizations in the future. Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One surprising thing about me is that I practice Yoga. I began my Yogi journey while quarantined during COVID-19. Since then, I have integrated the practice into my day-to-day activities.
