Hidden Gems: Meet Abbey Goodson of Sweet Pea Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Goodson.

Hi Abbey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I went to UGA and majored in Public Relations with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. In college, I interned with a local boutique called Mia Bella’s. I also interned with Empire South. I started Sweet Pea Boutique the summer before my senior year of college. It was all online. We did lots of pop-up shops and events. Then we signed a lease for the collection in Cumming.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it has been challenging to grow. I think one of the biggest struggles is as a small business owner, you have to do everything, but of course, you’re not going to be great at everything. My support system from my family and friends has been so wonderful! Another challenge, of course, has been Covid. We did open the brick and mortar during a pandemic. I think being patient with that and knowing that business would be different because some people are still scared to go out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the owner of Sweet Pea Boutique. We have all t-shirts and sweatshirts as well as some gifts and accessories. We have lots of gameday items. Most of our items are unisex. We are different because we have now just focused on t-shirts and sweatshirts and coming up with different lines. We realized the shopping center was pretty covered with clothing, so we saw our t-shirts doing well and we decided to shift. There also was no gameday store at the Collection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Good luck- 1. My dad is an accountant, which has helped and he has had lots of experience in business. Bad luck- 1. Pandemic
