Hidden Gems: Meet Adrina Patterson of Her Global Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrina Patterson.

Adrina Patterson

Hi Adrina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all began when I found myself in Spain for a semester abroad in the Fall of 2017. This life-changing experience inspired me to complete a master’s degree in the UK and spend more time traveling in Europe. As an American who grew up in a Southern town, studying abroad was my chance to gain a new perspective and embrace cultures outside of my own. These experiences are also the driving force behind Her Global Life – a travel brand and community for women of color.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a first-generation business owner has its own unique challenges, such as funding, operational knowledge, and social networks. However, it is a challenge that has been rewarding to navigate and has contributed to building meaningful relationships with supporters and collaborators. I know this has been said multiple ways before, but deciding to start and not worry about perfection is always the most important first step.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Her Global Life?

We believe that by promoting global education and travel, we can help create a more equitable and connected world. We are dedicated to supporting women of color in their travel journeys and providing them with the tools and resources they need to explore the world and achieve their personal and educational goals.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was visiting New York City for the first time. The various ethnic cuisines, Times Square, and even the subway system were things I was not accustomed to. I am originally from Columbia, South Carolina which is a much smaller southern town. Witnessing this vast change in the pace of life and greater cultural diversity sparked my desire in exploring cultures and borders beyond my hometown.
