Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Burke Rush.
Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the legal field began with curiosity and evolved into purpose. Long before Burke Paralegal Service, LLC became what it is today, I understood the power of advocacy. I saw firsthand how overwhelming the legal system could be for everyday people, especially those who lacked access, knowledge, or financial resources. That awareness sparked my pursuit of paralegal studies, where I earned my Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies, building the foundation that would shape the rest of my career.
From there, I didn’t just want to work in the legal field — I wanted to lead, create, and make a meaningful impact. I went on to earn my Master’s in Business Management and later my Doctorate in Business, which equipped me with the strategic insight needed not just to perform legal support, but to structure legal support services in a way that truly moves cases and strengthens law practices.
I founded Burke Paralegal Service, LLC (BPS) in 2002. In the beginning, my work focused heavily on litigation support, legal document preparation, discovery, deposition preparation, and research. I assisted attorneys in securing case outcomes totaling over $5 million in settlements, while also contributing to the growth of small and minority-owned businesses. I learned very quickly that legal work is not just technical — it is strategic, emotional, and deeply human.
As the legal landscape evolved, so did my vision for BPS. The turning point came during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Law firms were restructuring. Court systems were pivoting to virtual procedures. Many attorneys found themselves managing heavier caseloads with fewer staff members. I recognized the need for dependable, remote, and highly skilled legal support that did not require added overhead, onboarding, or training. That was the moment Burke Paralegal Service transitioned into the fully remote, woman-owned legal support firm it is known as today.
I built BPS on a very clear principle: excellence is not optional. Every document matters. Every filing deadline matters. Every detail matters — because the outcome affects someone’s life. Whether it’s a family protecting generational property, an injured client seeking justice, a business owner negotiating a contract, or a community nonprofit serving those who need advocacy, the work holds weight.
I like to say that success in law is built long before anyone steps into a courtroom. It is built in the preparation. That is where BPS shines. When attorneys partner with us, they aren’t outsourcing — they are strengthening their legal strategy. They are gaining a trusted professional who anticipates what is needed and ensures nothing is missed.
Today, Burke Paralegal Service partners with solo practitioners, law firms, and nonprofit organizations that are committed to quality representation and community impact. What sets us apart is our commitment to relationship-driven service. We collaborate closely with the attorneys we support, adapting to their workflow, their style, and their goals. We do not simply “complete tasks” — we help build outcomes.
And those outcomes ripple outward into the community. When attorneys are supported well, clients are protected. Estates are preserved. Families retain ownership. Victims receive justice. Businesses stay open. Community organizations remain compliant and operational. Legal preparation has a direct effect on community stability. That is the impact of this work.
As for me, my professional journey continues to be fueled by purpose. I am proud to be a Doctor of Business, a woman business owner, and a committed legal professional who believes in the importance of integrity, accuracy, and service. I believe deeply in empowering others — the attorneys I support, the families whose cases they carry, and the communities that depend on strong representation.
Looking back, I didn’t simply build a business — I built a bridge. A bridge between attorneys and the support they need. A bridge between the legal process and everyday people seeking clarity and justice. And a bridge between my own lived experiences and the purpose I was called to fulfill.
Burke Paralegal Service, LLC stands today as a testament to preparation, professionalism, and perseverance. And we are just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road — but the challenges have shaped both the business and the woman behind it. When I started Burke Paralegal Service, I was stepping into a field that can be highly competitive and, at times, unforgiving. There were moments when I had to prove my value not once, but repeatedly — not because I lacked skill or capability, but because the legal profession can be slow to embrace change, especially when it comes to remote support.
There were seasons where I had to work twice as hard just to be taken seriously. Being a Black woman in the legal industry meant I had to show not only that I could do the work, but that I could do it with excellence — every time, with no room for error. I learned to stand firm in my knowledge, my credentials, and my value.
The expansion of the business during the pandemic was also challenging. The legal world was shifting rapidly. Courts were closed, procedures were changing daily, and attorneys were under immense pressure. I had to adapt — quickly — while still providing consistency and calm for the clients who counted on me. At the same time, I was balancing real life: family responsibilities, economic uncertainty, and the emotional weight of the moment we were all living through.
One of the hardest parts was not the work itself, but the endurance — pushing forward when the path wasn’t clear. I’ve had seasons where I felt unseen or underestimated. Times when I invested more than I had — emotionally, financially, spiritually — because I believed in the vision even when the results weren’t visible yet.
But what kept me going was purpose.
I don’t do this work for recognition. I do it because representation matters. Competence matters. Access matters. People deserve legal support rooted in care and integrity — not just paperwork and procedure. And attorneys deserve a partner who understands the weight of the cases they carry.
Every challenge strengthened my resilience. Every setback sharpened my strategy. Every difficult season positioned me to serve better, lead stronger, and stand firmer in who I am as a professional and as a woman of faith.
So no, the road has not been smooth — but the journey has been intentional. And I am grateful for every part of it, because it prepared me to build a business that is not just successful, but meaningful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Burke Paralegal Service, LLC is a professional legal support firm that works alongside attorneys and law firms to provide high-level paralegal services with accuracy, confidentiality, and strategic insight. We specialize in litigation support, legal document preparation, research, probate and estate filings, personal injury case preparation, discovery, and contract drafting. While we are a fully remote company, our presence is deeply felt by the attorneys and clients we serve. The heartbeat of our work is preparation. We make sure attorneys walk into negotiations, client meetings, mediations, and courtrooms organized, informed, and positioned to succeed.
What we are known for is our standard of excellence. We operate with precision because we know that every document filed and every detail in a case directly impacts a real person’s life. That level of care is not something that can be taught — it is a commitment. Having earned my Doctorate in Business, I built this company on a foundation of professional discipline, operational structure, and strategic execution. We don’t function as just an outsourced service — we function as a trusted partner to the attorneys we support. When we work with a firm, we learn its goals, its workflow, its voice, and its purpose, and we tailor our services to enhance their efficiency and strengthen their effectiveness.
What truly sets Burke Paralegal Service apart is the way we merge legal expertise with compassion and intentionality. We understand the human side of the law. Behind every motion, every contract, every probate petition, there is a family, a story, a business, or a future hanging in the balance. That awareness informs the way we work. We approach our services with the understanding that we are not simply preparing documents — we are safeguarding outcomes.
I am most proud of the reputation our brand has earned. Attorneys trust us. Clients feel the impact even if they never meet us. Community organizations depend on us. And our work supports access to justice — especially in spaces where representation has historically been limited or uneven. The Burke Paralegal Service brand stands for professionalism, reliability, and integrity. It stands for excellence without excuses. It stands for service that improves the systems and communities it touches.
What I want readers to know is simple: we are here to make the legal process work better — for attorneys, for clients, and for communities. We are committed to being the support that strengthens outcomes and the professionalism behind the preparation. Burke Paralegal Service, LLC is not just in the business of completing tasks. We are in the business of helping people win where it matters.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is knowing that the work I do is meaningful — that it has purpose and impact. I am happiest when I see the results of preparation, consistency, and faith come together to strengthen someone’s life, whether that’s an attorney feeling supported, a client receiving justice, or a family securing what rightfully belongs to them. There is joy in seeing people win — not because it was easy, but because we were intentional.
I am also deeply fulfilled by growth — my growth, the growth of the business, and the growth of the people around me. I believe that every chapter of life teaches us something, and I take happiness in evolving, learning, and becoming the best version of myself, both professionally and personally. My happiness also comes from being able to balance purpose with peace. I enjoy quiet moments, meaningful conversations, laughter with people I love, and being present in my own journey.
Ultimately, what makes me happy is alignment — living in the space where my gifts, my work, and my faith intersect. That is where I feel grounded. That is where I feel useful. That is where I feel whole.
