Hidden Gems: Meet Amanda Lucey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Lucey.

Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I went to the University of West Georgia and studied economics and journalism. I ended up graduating from the business school with a major in economics and minor in mass communications. It’s rewarding to now serve on the Board of Trustees for the same university that gave me such a great start. I have always enjoyed writing, telling stories, and communications. I started working at a newspaper in high school as a stringer, and I continued to work in the field as I developed in my career. I worked in PR for many years before getting introduced to advertising, and the blend of both keeps me challenged, motivated, and excited to continue in this profession.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has not always been easy at all – there’s been a lot of struggles. Starting when I was a child. Neither one of my parents had a college degree when I was growing up. We experienced a lot of economic hardships. In middle school I spent a lot of time helping with my brother and cooking meals (or burning them). I started working at 13 as a babysitter and started my first “real” job at 16 to earn money for a car. I always worked multiple jobs and had to hustle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started my first company, Moxie Media and Marketing, dba M3 Effect, in 2012 at my kitchen table. From a consultancy to hiring eight employees, it all started in my home. No funding, no financing, just grit. I acquired The Partnership in 2018 in an effort to scale faster. After merging two teams and two offices, I built out an office overlooking the Braves stadium at The Battery. I believe in staying hungry, hustling and being humble (three H’s). While I’m proud of the 42-year legacy I’ve acquired, the kitchen table reminds me that the three H’s are vital to success.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have been fortunate to have so many amazing mentors in business. Several bosses and colleagues. When looking for a mentor, it’s about finding someone you can truly learn from, listen to and seek support from.
