Hidden Gems: Meet Amber Lane of Dope Do It

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Lane.

Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At Detroit Renaissance High School, I began to develop my sense of style. My Dance Workshop sisters would always help me dress better than what I would. I lacked a lot of confidence and it showed in my attire. Once I graduated, I was still trying to find myself and dress how I really wanted to. 7 years later, here I am. Finally able to embrace who I really am, express myself through my own sense of style, walking confidently, and being my true, authentic self. I’ve taken a plethora of classes with amazing entrepreneurs, such as Alana McCarter, Joyce Sheffield, Teiara Blount, and Shana Wilson-Williams. I’m constantly furthering my education in the fashion industry. I’ve also assisted my sister, Iantha Lane, with her fashion events through her business, The e.Lane Group. She was one of my inspirations for jumping head first in this industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, this has not been an easy road at all! I started my business in the very beginning of COVID-19 and the pandemic. I’ve encountered the ups and downs of sales, the delay of shipping, locating quality vendors and manufacturers, discouragement which led into my inconsistency, rebranding a few times, and just trying to make what I see a reality.

We’ve been impressed with Dope Do It, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dope Do It is an online women’s clothing and accessory boutique. We are a brand that wants women to feel comfortable in their own styling, and to use it as a form of expression. We turn society’s and our own personal don’ts into your own unapologetic version of their definition of dope. Dope Do It also offers styling services. We are currently in the process of expanding our service list.

I am proud that no matter what is thrown in the journey of Dope Do It, the brand is constantly going forward and aiming to progress.

I want readers to know that consistency is key! Go after every vision and dream. It is possible and it can happen, but work is one of the key ingredients. As my Bishop (Dr. Milton C. Woods) says, the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

What are your plans for the future?
Plans for the future are expansion. Being able to offer more services in the industry to be a one stop shop, for business owners, consumers, and those that just love fashion. We want to be able to service everyone in the full capacity of the mission and standards of the brand.
