Today we’d like to introduce you to Anais Magee.
Hi Anais, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Wanting to have a candle business started back in 2016 when I lived in southern California. At the time, I just didn’t know where or how to even start. Life happened and I forgot about my dream until August of 2020. During the pandemic, I had a thought what if I lost my job how would I support my child and just make sure things kept going as normal. I also started to think about how I wanted to leave a legacy. The thought of a candle business came back to my mind. This time it was not just a thought, but I started to make a plan and do research. In my mind, I thought it was just mixing fragrance oil in wax and stick a wick in it. It is much more than that. It’s literally a science project and a lot of math. I bought a candle kit to make sure this is something I wanted to do. When I made my first candle in October of 2020, I knew that it was for me. I spoke with friends and family and told them what my idea was. Everyone was so supportive. My mother passed away when I was young, so I wanted to honor my mom with this business. With that in mind, I knew I wanted to officially go into business on September 26, 2021, which is my mother’s birthday. I knew I had from October of 2020 to September of 2021 to do as much research as I could. I took that time to find the vessels I wanted to use and the scents I wanted to start with.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Becoming a candle makes has had its ups and downs. To the point, I had the thought of quitting. My momma didn’t raise a quitter. I knew if I stopped, I would always wonder how far I could have gone. When it comes to candle making you have to test, test and test some more. I wanted to make sure I am making a safe product. I tested every scent in every vessel with different wicks. That alone had me in tears because what works for one does not work for all.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
A lot of people assume my name is Siana, but my name is actually Anais Siana is just my name backward. Anais means gracious and merciful, and Siana means God is gracious or plentiful springs. I specialize in hand-made coconut soy wood wick candles. I am known for personalizing my labels. If you wanted a candle to celebrate a birthday, graduation, or any occasion, I can personalize your candle label say exactly what you want it to say.
I am proud of the I AM line. There was a point in my life that I didn’t realize my worth. I would tell myself that I AM worthy. I AM enough. It wasn’t enough to just say it I had to believe it. It’s more than I AM affirmations; it’s about who God says you are. My hope is others will be reminded when they light or walk past this candle who they are!
What are your plans for the future?
I am looking towards doing some farmer’s markets or pop-up shops for 2023. I am currently working on a new fragrance and continuing to expand my I AM line for more I AM statements.
