Today we’d like to introduce you to Arnel Richardson.
Arnel , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into college consulting actually began at home. As a mother of three—Gewel, Gem, and Gary, known as the #3Richkids—I experienced the college admissions process three different times with my own children. Like many families, we quickly realized how overwhelming the process could be. Between applications, scholarships, financial aid forms, and trying to understand what colleges were really looking for, it can feel like a full-time job. I remember thinking that families shouldn’t have to figure all of this out alone.
I am a proud product of public school education and a graduate of Morgan State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Accounting. I later earned my MBA from the University of North Alabama. My professional background gave me the skills to research, analyze, and plan, but it was the experience of guiding my own children through the admissions process that truly opened my eyes. Through careful planning and a strong focus on scholarships, each of my children were able to attend college without taking on overwhelming student loan debt. That experience showed me that when families have the right information and strategy, college can become far more accessible.
Seeing how many families struggled with misinformation, confusion, and the financial burden of higher education motivated me to start enRICH.ED Consulting LLC. I wanted to create a space where families could receive clear guidance, support, and practical strategies to help their students succeed. Through enRICH.ED Consulting, I work with students and families to develop college plans, identify scholarship opportunities, strengthen applications, and make informed decisions about higher education.
What I love most about this work is watching students grow and realize their potential. Some of the students I work with are the first in their families to navigate the college process, and helping them gain access to opportunities they may not have known existed is incredibly rewarding. My goal is always to make sure families feel empowered rather than overwhelmed.
At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: when students and families have the right information, they gain options. And having options is the key to navigating the college admissions process and building a future with confidence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any business, it hasn’t always been a completely smooth road, but I’ve been fortunate in many ways. One of the things I’m most grateful for is that my business is about 99% referral based. Families share their experiences with other families, and that trust has helped enRICH.ED Consulting grow organically over the years.
Since starting enRICH.ED Consulting, I have assisted over 100 students through the college admissions and scholarship process. Collectively, these students have earned millions of dollars in scholarships, which has helped many families significantly reduce the financial burden of higher education. While that growth has been rewarding, it also comes with the responsibility of making sure each student receives thoughtful, personalized guidance throughout their journey.
Another challenge has been staying informed in an environment where the college admissions landscape is constantly evolving. Admissions trends, financial aid policies, and scholarship opportunities change every year. To stay prepared for my students, I regularly participate in workshops with organizations and schools, attend college fairs, and visit campuses through college tours so that I can provide firsthand insight when students are building their college lists.
The work requires dedication, continuous learning, and a genuine commitment to serving families well. Seeing students gain admission to schools they’re excited about and earn scholarships that make college more affordable makes every challenge worthwhile.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
enRICH.ED Consulting LLC is a college and career readiness consulting firm that helps students and families successfully navigate the college admissions and scholarship process. I work closely with students to develop a clear strategy for their future—whether that includes identifying best-fit colleges, strengthening applications, preparing personal statements, or finding scholarship opportunities that help reduce the financial burden of higher education.
What many people don’t realize is that getting into college is only one part of the journey. Understanding how to pay for college, how to build a strong application profile, and how to position yourself competitively for scholarships are just as important. That’s where my work really comes in. I help students and families create a plan early so they are not overwhelmed when senior year arrives.
One of the things that sets enRICH.ED Consulting apart is the personalized approach I take with every student. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all plan. Every student has a different story, different talents, and different goals, and my role is to help them highlight those strengths in a way that colleges and scholarship committees can see. I also stay actively engaged in the field by participating in professional development opportunities, attending college fairs, touring campuses, and working with schools and organizations to provide workshops and presentations for families. Staying current on admissions trends and scholarship opportunities allows me to provide students with accurate, up-to-date guidance.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of assisting more than 100 students through this process, and collectively they have earned millions of dollars in scholarships. Seeing students gain opportunities they once thought were out of reach is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the community that has formed around enRICH.ED Consulting. Many of my students are known as enRICH.ED Scholars, and I continue to celebrate their achievements long after they graduate high school. My brand is built on the belief that education creates opportunity, and my goal is to equip students with the knowledge, strategy, and confidence they need to pursue their dreams.
What I want readers to know is that families don’t have to navigate the college process alone. With the right guidance and planning, students can open doors to incredible opportunities while also making smart financial decisions about their future.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, I’m excited about continuing to expand the impact of enRICH.ED Consulting. One of my goals is to increase the number of speaking engagements I do with schools, organizations, and community groups. I enjoy educating families about the college admissions and scholarship process, and I want to continue creating spaces where students and parents can gain the information they need to make informed decisions about higher education.
I’m also planning to launch a podcast that will focus on college preparation, scholarships, and career pathways. My goal is to make the college planning process more accessible by sharing practical tips, industry insights, and conversations with experts who can help students better understand their options.
Another area I’m excited about is developing a stronger social media strategy so I can reach more students and families with helpful information and resources. Many families simply don’t know where to start, and social media provides an opportunity to share guidance in a way that is accessible and easy to understand.
In addition, I am looking forward to building more partnerships with colleges and universities, particularly Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). One of my long-term goals is to develop scholarship opportunities through these partnerships for students I work with who are eligible. HBCUs have played a powerful role in shaping generations of leaders, and I would love to help create pathways for more students to access those opportunities.
My vision is to continue growing the enRICH.ED community while helping even more students gain access to higher education, scholarships, and opportunities that can positively shape their future.
