Today we’d like to introduce you to Beau Elkins.
Hi Beau, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to Atlanta at 22, shortly after earning an audio engineering degree from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. For several years, I interned at recording studios, gaining experience but not a paycheck. To make ends meet, I started working in restaurants, and over time I realized I preferred the pace and the people to long nights in a studio.
That shift led to an 18-year career in Atlanta’s restaurant industry, including ten years with Six Feet Under LLC. In my last two years there, I served as General Manager at the Grant Park location. I valued the relationships I built with owners, staff, and customers, but eventually the demanding hours took their toll.
A conversation with a childhood friend—who happened to be my insurance agent—sparked the idea of a career change. He suggested I look into the industry, and after connecting with Mike Taylor at Country Financial, I began a new path. For two years I learned from experienced professionals like Taylor, Chris McLendon, Ayo Saba, Terence Dowling, Jerry Butler, Norma West, and Bernie Hall. They taught me how to write policies properly and, more importantly, how to serve clients with transparency and care.
My years in restaurants gave me a deep respect for customer service, and I carried that into insurance. I’ve always believed in helping clients understand their coverage and making sure they end up with the best protection available, whether or not it comes from me.
When the pandemic arrived, I decided to open my own agency. Through a partnership with Assure Alliance, I gained access to multiple carriers, and now hold direct appointments with more than 20. Today, my focus remains the same: providing clients with clear information, strong options, and the kind of service I’ve valued throughout every stage of my career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a client base from scratch was challenging, and my income in the beginning was less than I had imagined. I also made some mistakes early on, thinking that every industry platform would help me, but over time I learned what worked best for me and my company. Sticking with it, being persistent, and focusing on strategies that actually yielded results has paid off—I’ve gradually gained more clients and more stability.
We’ve been impressed with The Elkins Agency LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run my own insurance agency, where I handle all aspects of the business independently—from prospecting and client acquisition to policy management and customer service. Being a one-person operation has given me a deep understanding of the entire insurance process and honed my skills in sales, relationship-building, and problem-solving. I’m responsible for identifying client needs, recommending suitable coverage, and ensuring clients feel supported throughout the policy lifecycle. This experience has taught me how to work autonomously, prioritize effectively, and deliver results while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
How do you define success?
I define success as having the freedom to spend time with my kids as much as I want.
