Hidden Gems: Meet Chelsea Njambe of Braids Galore and Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Njambe.

Hi Chelsea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, my mom has been doing hair for about 30 years so I’ve been around the beauty industry since I’ve been born. I think that’s why I wanted to open the salon. I truly love hair and how black women can transform with any look. She’s my biggest inspiration and without my mom, none of this would be possible. I came up with the idea earlier this year and we spent months looking for the perfect location until we almost gave up but something told us to hold on one more day and when we did we found the shop that we are at now. I really think we’ve gotten this far by favor because so many things have happened throughout this journey but it’s been worthwhile.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth. We’ve gone through four contractors so far. I believe that some people think they can get over on us because we’re two women but that’s not the case. We’ve been firm in what we would allow and what we would not allow. Growing our clientele has been challenging but every day we get a new client so we are grateful. Also getting stylists in our shop has been difficult since a lot of people are use to working from home.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Braids Galore and Salon?
We are primarily a braiding shop. We have over 30 years of expertise in every braiding style you can imagine. We pride ourself we our customer service and our work. We want our customers to walk out happy and this is how we plan to grow. We welcome all kinds of clients such as kids, teens, adults, men, women, whoever! We just focus on what the customers ask for and make their vision come true.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
This entire journey was and still is a risk. Opening a business during a pandemic is not easy. We constantly have to brace ourselves for the worst but we’ve been blessed so far!
