Hidden Gems: Meet Connie Paul of Angels Homecare NZ Ltd.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie Paul.

Hi Connie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business from scratch. I am a Filipino doctor residing in New Zealand. I decided not to practice medicine in New Zealand and study about Gerontology instead. I then set up a business caring for the older people. I was thinking that the area where I lived is in the grey zone in the north island of New Zealand meaning that a lot of older people resides here. With a lot of perseverance, I created a boutique home health service since 2016. It was called Connie’s Angels Homecare Ltd. This year, I have to restructure my company as it was getting out of control. Luckily, my clients and my staff supported me and together, we moved to a new company called Angels Homecare NZ Ltd.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was never a smooth road. Challenges come from all directions. It can be employee problems, company structure, maintaining the quality of care. Decisions, right or wrong ones.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Angels Homecare NZ Ltd.?
It is a boutique home health services catering the older people. We provide personal cares such as showers/dressing up, companionship, meal preparation, hoisting disabled clients. We also do home management services such as cleaning older people’s homes, de cluttering. As we grow our business, we decided to specialise in providing personal cares for people with Dementia and those people that needs to be hoisted out from bed and into the bed. As the baby boomers are now coming to long term care, some of them become difficult to care, Angels Homecare are called to provide one-on-one cares for them to keep them safe within the facility.
What sets us apart from others is that Angels Homecare NZ is owned and managed by Connie Paul who has a medical background. Connie can understand more what is going on with the clients as she can integrate everything from clinical symptoms, medications, mobility and what the client really need. Connie is currently wanting to set up a brand that older people should maintain their dignity and be respected regardless of dementia. Assisted dying is legal in NZ, we support them by keeping their dignity intact on their graceful exit in life.

What’s next?
As I am starting on a new set up for the company, I will be streamlining the services for the clients by upholding the quality of care we have done from the start. Baby boomers are getting older. They are part of the challenge so we will be ready for them by having more patience while communicating with them.
