Hidden Gems: Meet Cordell Rhymer of DJ Reo Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Reo.

Hi Cordell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is DJ Reo and I am a dj based out of Atlanta,GA. Growing up, music has always been an important aspect of my life. Because I was born in the United States Virgin Islands, I’ve always grew up on a wide variety of music from reggae, soca, and dancehall but later moving to Atlanta, I also listened to a lot of R&B, rap and hip hop. Djing was something I’ve always aspired to do. I was gifted a beginner dj controller and from there, the rest was history. I began studying the technical aspects of djing and consistently learning how to create mixes, blend songs, and scratch. After practicing for two months I received my first booking at a lounge.I did so well I went home with a lot of extra money just from customers tipping me because they had such a good time. That night really gave me the motivation to continue to grind out the dj scene.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Djing has not been a smooth road but has been very rewarding. On the DJ scene today, I would be considered a fairly new DJ but I have made great progress. I have been fortunate to dj at very popular venues very early on in my journey. In terms of obstacles, there’s so much to learn about djing from learning basic song structure to crowd control and even learning how to read a room to make sure your playing the right music has been a constant learning experience for me. Secondly, learning the politics of the nightlife and how to deal with club owners and promoters when conducting business is definitely a challenge most djs face.

As you know, we’re big fans of DJ Reo Entertainment LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I consider myself an open format Disc Jockey but specialize in Hip Hop, Rap, Dancehall, Reggae, Afrobeat and R&B music. What sets me apart is none of my sets are the same and I consider myself very versatile.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is determined by the individual. Everyone has their own set of goals and aspirations that they would like to accomplish. And in doing so if they accomplish what they desire then to me they would be considered successful in their own right.
