Hidden Gems: Meet Cynthia Schwartzberg of Cynthasis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Schwartzberg.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From an early age I sensed there was something “more” to life — a depth we don’t always talk about. My parents’ divorce was a turning point. I remember going to a therapist then and, for the first time, feeling truly seen and understood. That experience planted the seed that I, too, wanted to help others in that way.

When I entered college, I started as a math major, but I quickly realized I wanted to work with people, not just numbers. I switched to psychology — yet my path wasn’t a straight line. I stepped away from school for a time, working in advertising and public relations. Those years gave me valuable business-world experience and, just as importantly, became a period of deep self-growth. Eventually, I returned to finish my masters in social work degree, more grounded and clear about my purpose.

Atlanta has played an important role in my story. I first visited in the late 80s and remember an inner voice whispering: I could live here — this feels like home. When I moved here in the late 90s, that intuition proved true. My then-husband was attending Life University, and I like to say he went to Life and I got a life! I was welcomed with open arms, building friendships and professional connections that shaped my path. Thirteen years ago, I returned to Atlanta and even to the same Buckhead office where I had once practiced. Being welcomed back by colleagues and friends was deeply affirming — it truly felt like coming home.

Later, west coast swing dancing in Alpharetta opened another chapter of joy and connection, and it’s how I met my second-chance partner, Jon. His fun and support continue to enrich this journey, whether we’re biking, hiking, kayaking, traveling, or enjoying life with friends and family.

Professionally, I’ve spent more than 30 years as a psychotherapist, trainer, and speaker. I co-founded Core South, became one of the early trainers in Brainspotting, and founded the Southeast Brainspotting Institute to expand access to training and healing in our region. I also developed my own integrative healing approach, called Harmonic Brain Healing, and founded Cynthasis to bring these tools to both professionals and individuals. Most recently, I wrote The Curious Voyage to Authenticity: A Rule-Breaking Guide for Personal Growth, which weaves together the insights, practices, and lessons I’ve gathered along the way. I offer online courses to help people apply the voyage to their lives. My work is all about helping people release old patterns, reconnect with themselves, and live more authentically.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. My path has had its share of twists and turns, and those struggles have shaped who I am today. Personally, I’ve walked through infertility, adoption, and divorce. Life didn’t unfold the way I once imagined, and those painful seasons became profound opportunities for reflection, healing, and rediscovering what authenticity really means. They taught me resilience, compassion, and that sometimes life’s greatest gifts come from the places we least expect.

Professionally, stepping into new roles also brought challenges. Creating my own healing approach, Harmonic Brain Healing, and writing The Curious Voyage to Authenticity meant facing doubts and stretching into new territory. Co-founding Core Energetics South and later founding the Southeast Brainspotting Institute required courage, persistence, and the willingness to build something from the ground up.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been deeply meaningful. Every struggle has opened another layer of healing, both for me and for the people I now have the privilege to support.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cynthasis?
I see myself as both a professional leader and a creative innovator. Over the past 30+ years, I’ve dedicated my career to helping people heal, grow, and reconnect with their authentic selves. I’m a psychotherapist, trainer, and speaker, and I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals, groups, and professionals around the world.

Life’s moves gave me the unique gift of starting new practices in different cities, which meant building fresh connections with professionals and communities each time. Those experiences drew on my early background in advertising and public relations, where I developed business and marketing skills that have continued to serve me throughout my career. They’ve also given me the opportunity, later in life, to mentor and consult with other business owners, therapists, and leaders — helping them thrive while staying true to their purpose.

I’ve co-founded Core Energetics South and the Southeast Brainspotting Institute to expand access to training and healing in our region. I’ve also trained hundreds of therapists in Brainspotting, helping them deepen their attunement and presence with clients. Along the way, I created Harmonic Brain Healing, an integrative approach that blends neuroscience, somatic awareness, and spiritual wisdom.

Dance and movement have been an integral part of my life for decades, and all of my somatic training and teaching have profoundly influenced my work and creativity. Studying with Shamans has further deepened this integration, infusing my work with ancient wisdom and respect for the unseen layers of healing. These influences remind me that transformation is not only psychological or physical, but also energetic and spiritual in nature.

This creativity flows into everything I do, from designing experiential workshops to writing my book, The Curious Voyage to Authenticity: A Rule-Breaking Guide for Personal Growth. The book itself grew out of decades of practice and has become the foundation for classes where people can explore its tools in a community setting.

Through my company, Cynthasis, I bring all of this together, offering therapy, training, and classes that combine science, creativity, movement, and ancient wisdom. What sets my work apart is integration. I bridge the personal and the professional, the scientific and the spiritual, the individual and the community. Whether I’m sitting one-on-one with a client, leading a training, or guiding a class based on my book, my goal is the same: to create spaces where people feel deeply seen, supported, and free to grow into who they are meant to be.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Absolutely. Yoga has been a steady anchor for me. I was first inspired by Yoga with Adriene on YouTube, which eventually led me to complete a 200-hour yoga teacher certification. These days, I enjoy practicing with teachers like Charlie Follows. Yoga continues to teach me about presence, balance, and flow, lessons I bring into every part of my work and life.

Some mornings, I’ll begin with a Joe Dispenza meditation or simply listen to bilateral music while practicing Self-Spotting. Starting the day with meditation, movement, and breath gives me clarity and energy, setting the tone for everything that follows. Exercise, whether it’s Chi Qong, HASfit, or a good long walk, is another way I keep myself grounded and energized.

I also love Audible. Walking my dog is one of my favorite times to listen. Sometimes it’s neuroscience, learning how the brain unlocks and changes, and other times it’s historic fiction that carries me into different worlds. Both nourish me: one expands my knowledge, the other fuels my imagination.

And, of course, I value creating resources for others. My book, The Curious Voyage to Authenticity, along with the classes and trainings I’ve developed, are designed to be companions on the journey– practical tools that help people stay curious, connected, and true to themselves.
