Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanera Barrow.
Hi Deanera, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always enjoyed arts and crafts since I was a child so I would always make my family gifts. I enjoy DIY projects, painting and papercrafts. In the past few years, I’ve expanded into scrapbooking. In 2019, I decided I wanted to start a business selling resin items such as keychains, bookmarks, and trays. I brought the idea to a friend of mine and she helped me come up with my business name. I actually didn’t make any purchases for my business or even attempt to make anything until the following year.
In June of 2020, my boyfriend’s mother gifted me (us, but it’s basically mine now lol) with a Cricut. She taught us the basics and I took off from there. I started making all the purchases I had been planning and started creating my products. I made my Instagram and Facebook pages and shared them with my closest friends/family. The majority of my initial sales came from them and word of mouth helped get my name out. My motto is “you dream it, we create it”. With that, I have customers that bring ideas to me and I recreate them. This has expanded my product list and helped me consistently bring new items to my shop.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, it’s been pretty cool. In the beginning, my customers used a google form to place orders but I switched to a full website to make it easier and more convenient for them. I’ve run into a few problems with shipping but I’m learning the best methods for certain items. My biggest challenge is remembering to buy inventory in bulk. But I’m surrounded by business people so they help me when I ask. It’s a learning process but I love it.
We’ve been impressed with Vivid Creations.DB, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vivid Creations.DB is a business that specializes in homemade, unique items. All items are customized by me, from my home to yours. Products currently include custom song plaques (most popular), masks, shirts, song keychains, initial keychains, phone cases, shot glasses, ashtrays and coaster/wine butler sets. I put a lot of love and attention to detail into each item. As far as my brand goes, I am most proud of the feedback I receive pertaining to my creations. It gives me the motivation to keep going and not give up. I’ve always wanted a crafting business but I didn’t imagine I would have it at 24. And for that, I’m extremely grateful for what has happened and what’s to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe I was blessed beyond belief with the tools and support I needed to get my business to where it is today. I’ve prayed and I know my family has also prayed. So I truly believe that prayer played the biggest role in the success of my business and my life overall.
