Today we’d like to introduce you to DeMarcus Rodgers.
DeMarcus, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a passion for grilling, but I have a master’s degree in community agency counseling. I was comfortable in my 9-5 job as a program director over three cities until our grant ended. I had previously purchased a food trailer and would go out some weekends and practically give away food. Once I lost my job, I decided to test the waters with my kuntri recipes, and I haven’t looked back since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been everything except smooth. I had to learn the business side of the food industry. I’m my own boss, so I had to adapt to resolving any issues that arise from having my own business. The pandemic changed my business plan. I only used to do lunch from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. but when everyone started working from home, I found myself in housing developments in the evening. I have two babies, and it was important for me to be home to help my wife and also to spend quality time with my family.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I own and operate a BBQ mobile food trailer. My specialty items are ribs and wings, but I offer pulled pork and chicken sandwiches, sausage dogs along with corn and baked beans. Everything I do is on the grill. I occasionally will do grilled cabbage with ribeyes shrimp and pork chops. My recipes were passed down to me from Angel in heaven, my mother. You will always get fresh food from me. I’m a country boy raised in a small town in Alabama named Toxey. We believe in getting you full.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My wife deserves the credit for believing in me and pushing me to pursue my passion. She is the real mvp, especially when I was out in the evening, and she was taking care of our babies by herself.
