Hi Don, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career path has been unconventional, driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit. At the age of 16, I graduated from high school and enrolled in a 6-year accelerated program at Howard University in Washington, DC. Although my parents had encouraged me to pursue a medical career, I soon realized that my true passion lay elsewhere. I changed my major and began working at a health club in sales and as a personal trainer at the age of 20, marking my first venture as an entrepreneur.
During this period, a former professor introduced me to the emerging internet in the early 90s, which, at the time, was quite primitive with its absence of graphic user interfaces and reliance on IP addresses to access a website. I found the concept of access information and connecting with people globally intriguing.
While continuing my sales and personal training career, I taught myself HTML and Javascript. I literally use to walk around the gym with a heavy IBM computer, and within a year, I began offering both personal training services and basic websites to clients, even though I was told by many “the internet is a fad”. By age 22 I was convinced the internet was going to be a game changer and at 24, I moved to Atlanta after starting my first web design and development consulting company.
One of my early contracts involved helping businesses transition from the Yellow Pages to the Web, working with BellSouth. This experience was pivotal in shaping my entrepreneurial journey which led to the sale of my first web design company and eCommerce platform. For the next 9 years, I worked as a Microsoft developer and Business consultant helping numerous companies use the web effectively to grow their businesses.
As smartphones and tablets became integral parts of our daily lives, it was essential for businesses and educational institutions, particularly medical schools, to adapt to this shift in user behavior. A chance meeting with a group of medical doctors led to another venture which quickly grew into consulting with medical schools all across the world and a focus on making websites mobile-friendly with data-driven decision making.
I embraced the opportunity to lead the charge in making mobile-friendly websites and incorporating data-driven decision-making was a fundamental component of my approach. I understood that successful digital transformation required more than just aesthetics; it required a deep understanding of user behavior, preferences, and the ability to adapt to emerging trends.
Following the sale of my second business, I returned to the digital marketing agency space in 2013, aiming to create a company known for delivering results and sustainable growth.
