Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Candace Holmes of BrainCore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Candace Holmes.

Dr. Candace Holmes

Hi Dr. Holmes, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began practicing chiropractic in 2000, the year I also got married. My (now ex) husband and I had two daughters in 2003 and 2005. Our oldest was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 7. We had been divorced for three years by that time.

She struggled in school, lacked focus and attention, was socially awkward, and took approximately 5 hours to complete her homework every night. Despite all my efforts, she was not progressing well in school, so, something had to be done to help her. Years went by. Our oldest was now thirteen years old. While going through one of our chiropractic magazines, I came across an article that spoke about neurofeedback therapy. It described the therapy as being non-invasive and drug-free with effects that could last up to thirty years. ADHD, anxiety, and depression were listed as conditions neurofeedback therapy helped people with. I was intrigued.

I called and found out more about BrainCore neurofeedback therapy. After the discussion, I conducted more research, prayed, and decided to purchase the system for my daughter. I got trained in it and began working with her using neurofeedback therapy. After completing my program and using my method, she began to thrive! She became the most focused in class, kept her peers on task, started making tons of friends, and took only two to three hours each night to complete her homework AND I didn’t have to help her anymore! She earned A’s in high school Honors Chemistry and Physics! She experienced a total transformation.

It was then that I decided to add it to my practice. I thought of all the years we spent being frustrated and exhausted both as a mother and as a daughter. I made it my mission to raise awareness of this therapy so that other parents didn’t have to wait as long as I did to find a natural solution for mental health and wellness challenges. Now, BrainCore neurofeedback therapy is 85% of my practice.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not!

Some struggles along the way included financially being unable to make payments for my system some months, having to provide coverage work for other chiropractors to make additional income at times, and being mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausted most nights after assisting my daughter with her homework. I also parented her younger sister who played softball, basketball, and ran track. I was a busy mamma!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
