Hidden Gems: Meet Infiniti Smith of Entwined Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Infiniti Smith.

Hi Infiniti, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, my name is Infiniti, and I am the owner of Entwined Co. I’m originally from Birmingham, Alabama. I initially pursued nursing, inspired by my love for helping people and caring for others. While I still carry that heart for service in everything I do, it seems God had a different plan for my ministry, guiding me toward hair and entrepreneurship.

Hair has been a part of my life since childhood. I started with dolls, then helped my mom with her quickweaves. I even practiced on myself with less than perfect results. Everyone in my family or family friends did hair, especially my uncle who styled in Atlanta. Hair was never just styling for me; it became a creative outlet, a way to connect, and eventually a purpose.

It wasn’t until May 2021 that I took a professional braiding class to enhance my skills. I’ve always had a tendency to quit when things got frustrating, but I promised my grandmother that I would stick with this, and I meant it. That commitment changed everything. I’ve now been a professional braider for four years, and this upcoming May will mark five years.

Educating clients about their hair while being the creative artist behind it is incredibly rewarding. I often describe myself as a “braid surgeon” because of the precision, care, and intentionality I bring to every client. Just like a surgeon, every detail matters; the placement, tension, and symmetry are all intentional. My science background and nursing mindset helped me develop the focus, discipline, and precision needed to approach braiding this way. It’s not just about the aesthetic; it’s about educating, protecting, and enhancing the health and confidence of every client.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can’t say I haven’t faced obstacles, because the journey has definitely been challenging. Before I became a professional hair braider, I worked as a logo designer and later as a hair supplier. In 2018, I also took a lash course on YouTube, which marked the start of my hair supply business. One of the biggest struggles was finding my identity as a brand. I went through at least four name changes before finally asking my mom to help me choose one last time. That moment brought clarity and peace, reminding me that alignment matters more than rushing the process.

There were times I felt like a failure because building trust with clients was not instant. I often wondered, if no one takes a chance on me, how could they ever trust me? Sales would fluctuate, especially as I experimented with different vendors to ensure high-quality products, which was my top priority. I often found myself shrinking my value to make things more affordable. In late 2019-2020, I believe that’s around the time when I wanted to do knotless braids. I practiced on my friends, my mom, my grandmother (I did a twist braid style), and myself before I officially took a class.

Like many entrepreneurs, I also faced moments of self-doubt, growing pains, and learning how to trust myself. Building something from the ground up taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of staying true to my vision even when things didn’t come together immediately.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets me apart is my intentionality and precision; I don’t just braid hair; I educate, create, and tailor each style to the individual. I approach braiding like a braid surgeon, ensuring every detail is perfect while empowering clients with knowledge about their hair. My goal is for them to leave not only looking great, but feeling confident and informed.

I love educating people about their hair while expressing my creativity. Every client interaction is an opportunity to empower, teach, create life-long bonds, and transform. Seeing the confidence and joy on their faces is the most rewarding part of this work. My foundation in science continues to influence the way I approach each style with care, precision, and intention.

I specialize in knotless braids. I am most proud that I kept building, learning, and trusting the process when it comes to my business. I kept my promise.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the people who poured into me. My mom and grandmother have been my foundation, guiding me, encouraging me, and giving wisdom when I needed it most. My brothers have also been supportive in meaningful ways, always encouraging me to keep going. Additionally, I want to thank everyone who trusted me to do their hair as a beginner; my friends and even strangers supported me through my uncertainty.

Above all, I give credit to God, who has guided my steps, given me patience, and kept me grounded throughout this journey. Every season of growth and clarity has come from trusting his timing.
